I ran different tires front and rear for a few miles, and the PSM almost killed me in the rain when I forgot to turn it off.

I'm running this combination and can honestly say that I like it better than the PZeros all around that I ran until the rears went away.

Can I stick with the pirellis pzeros but for the back run the nero?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Flat rear tire. Ruined. I drove on it like an idiot. It was dark, i was dressed up...... I really didnt know it was flat. Im new to low profiles.
I was going to put new ones on this summer anyway.. looks like its going to happen more this week.
I bought a set of fronts from a guy here on the board they are Pirelli Rosso's I can not find matching Rosso in the right size for the back... and I have an issue with mismatched tires
Let's see:
Unfamiliar with low profile: Check
Dressed up: Check
Dark out: Check
Drove on it anyway: Check
Wanted new tires anyway = Priceless.
Er, well not exactly priceless.
that sucks Kyle. Low profile tires pick up debris like a magnet you have to be careful and watch the roads. I try to take the side street, sometimes an easy shortcut.
Kyle,
You can do better than that. Go to Tirerack.... there are tons of very good tires. Specifically, the Sumitomos and the Hankooks are very good budget tires and the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs are very highly rated.
There are a ton of opinions on N spec vs. regular tires...., but there are choices out there and from what I have experienced and used I would not use the Pirellis. Loud and not that durable - but that's only my opinion.
should I just abandon the pzero's? I paid $200 for the pair of fronts and they only have 700 miles on them. Tirerack doesnt have the right size.
Do I have to go with the rosso? Can I stick with the pirellis pzeros but for the back run the nero?
just my opinion, but,
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I ran different tires front and rear for a few miles, and the PSM almost killed me in the rain when I forgot to turn it off. Twice.
I cant do that..... I just cant... i have to have the same thing on all 4 corners on my toys. At least the same brand.
I found a new set on ebay. I am just not sure if the ones I bought for the front are ASIMMETRICO. Whatever that means
I'm running this combination and can honestly say that I like it better than the PZeros all around that I ran until the rears went away. I tip toed around for a while to gain some confidence and now will push it quite hard on the street. H&R Sway bars eliminated most of the frount understeer push I was getting. All 4 will go away about the same time and Sumitumo will be my tire of choice for the street.
I had Pirelli P-Zeros on my 996 and other cars in the past. I've switched to Sumitomo HTR-ZIIIs.
When you burn through this set of P-Zeros (shouldn't take long - my record is 16K miles), I'd seriously consider the Sumis. I've been happy with them.
About 6 years ago I participated in the Saab Aero Academy at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA.
At that course, I had the opportunity to drive a 3 identical 9-5 Aeros through the slalom course. One had new tires (probably P-Zeros - I don't recall). One had worn tires and one had "new" tires that had been sitting in the Aero Academy warehouse for 3 years (think of Atlanta heat here...). The difference was truly remarkable. The "new" 3 year old tires were the worst, by far. I was really surprised at the difference. This wasn't a planned part of the course - apparently they found a set of tires in the back of the warehouse that were behind some boxes, so they had been sitting there for 3 years or more.
The course was a wonderful, and eye-opening experience. The lesson on tires was excellent too. Our course was taught by Cass Whitehead, a name you may recognize from Porsche racing. He was a great instructor.
Kyle-
If I remember right they were manufactured 2006 or 2007. Only reason I sold them is I don't like Pirelli (period). I have Sumi's. I'm sure you are fine.
+1 for Sumis.
Rubber will harden over time and become brittle. A great example is look for old rubber bands around your house. It will tell you everything you need to know.
moral of the story, dont skimp on tires or imo anything for your porsche, yes seek out the best bargain you can get,but be aware if its to good to be true it probaly is,you knew when you bought your car you were gonna have to budget for certain things, like wear and tear items,i cant believe im hearing things like mismatching the tires etc, cmon man save up and get some great tires for your car,and shop around,i just did and let me tell you i did better than tire rack by a considerable amount, and were talkin michilin pilot ps2s n rated, anyway as previous post pointed out there are other options, imo make sure there for your vehicle(996)....stay safe and enjoy.
I have 295/30/18's. Same wheel as you. Thought I would have tire rub issues but not the case.
Bigger is better...at least thats what my wife said..........
Ok **** it, I got carried away and almost violated my own first rule.
If you can buy local for a comparabel price, do so.
Tire rack -cancelled.
Goodyear f1's will be on the car by friday. 900$, on the car from a local shop.
Holy cow. You did an intermediate shaft job? This means, perhaps, that mechanics is just a minor diversion, that you don't know tire sizes. Are you god?
