Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the oil filter sit on a "spring" loaded spindle, or does it just push down onto the spindle at the bottom of the housing? When I changed mine, It just pushed down onto the spindle and seemed fine. I found some DIY instructions, and saw this side note, and was wondering If there is something missing, or am I just misinterpreting this side note. Note: If the spindle/spring assembly sticks to the filter - remove it and push it back into the filter housing. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

There's a seal on the bottom I see in the service manual. No spring though. What model of 911 instructions and or oil filter arrangement is one question.

Instructions are for the 996 Carrera. The stock setup.

POST 4Original post

Spring? Depends. What kind of oil are you using??

POST 5Original post

I just changed the filter on mine last Saturday (for the first time) and no spring was present.

POST 6Original post

Yup, can confirm that, no spring, just new rubber o'ring. The filter needs a bit of pressure to squeeze on to the mounting but definitely no spring...

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Then I'm cool! Thanks. Audi did the last oil change and was just making sure they didn't lose a part!
