Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'bit different' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit different' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill on the first start' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Sometimes it reads full right away after filling on the first start.

After experimenting a bit I've found that around 7 gallons usually will "reset" the fuel guage.

Sometimes I wait until I'm about near running on fumes and I'l fill at the most 13 gallons.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was running low on gas, so I stopped to get some at lunch the other day. The low gas warning was on, and the indicator was into the last 1/8, and was perfectly aligned with one of the sections. The station I pulled into was having problems with their credit card machine, and I didn't want to pay for a full tank with cash, so I gave them $10.
I got 2.7 gallons, more than enough to get me home to my regular station.
The fuel indicator was LOWER after putting in 2.7 gallons. And it stayed lower, even after driving another 2 miles to the office, and then 7 miles home after work.
Any clue why this happened? I knew I had the gas to get home, and nothing (obvious) bad happened as a result, but it is odd.
I've had the same problem. I would put $20 (~5 gal) and have the guage still read empty. I've read somewhere that the sensor for the fuel level is located on a hump or something. So until the fuel level reaches that hump it will use the "calculated" fuel level. After experimenting a bit I've found that around 7 gallons usually will "reset" the fuel guage. Apperently this little quirk is implied in the Owner's Manual but I have not looked yet.
It sure gave me a scare the first time it happened. I thought the attendant shafted me and was almost ready to back and yell at the guy (in NJ we can't pump our own gas.).
This happens to me as well. It's a pain since while I live in NY, my office is just next to NJ, where fuel is approx. 40 to 50 cents per gallon cheaper, so yes, I have the same issue. Not sure what the true reading is unless I put at least a half tank in.

This problem has been discussed here a couple of times. It seems to be something that happens in teh C4/C4s cars if you don't get at least 1/2 tank of gas. Strange.
My problem is a bit different. I try to fill up in the mornings when the fuel in the underground tanks are cool and the vapor pressure is less, which means more fuel goes into your tank with minimal vapor being sucked back into the pump that you pay for but don't get. I would fill up until the fuel handle clicks, and I can never see my fuel gauge reach the top most "full" line, it's always right above the second to the top line. Sometimes I wait until I'm about near running on fumes and I'l fill at the most 13 gallons. My dealer never gave me my owners manual so I don't know how many gallons C4S tanks take. I don't know if there's something wrong.
Same here, and I have a C2, so it's not just a problem with the C4.
It's really disconcerting after spending $50+ to fill up, but I've learned to live with it. Glad to know it's not just my car.
I'd be more concerned if the low reading was inaccurate.
It's argueable. I should have been a bit clearer, I probably will save $0.03 on a fillup, and that drop that drips while taking out the nozzle costs more than the vapors
I just makes me feel better knowing I'm saving up money towards my TT
Assuming you fill-up every 250 miles, if you drive your P-car 1 million miles you will save $120 using your method. But, I think you'll be in the Porsche record books at that mileage!
Oddity is a great word. I will fill up when the low light comes on, then the level goes to half, then 2-3 starts later, it reads full. But the real oddity is, it doesn't do that all the time, heh. Sometimes it reads full right away after filling on the first start.
I had same issue and I know others who had same issue as well. Must be pretty widespread. It wasn't that big of a deal though and I learned to live with it. I looked before but never found much information posted on it, thought it might would have been a recall.
