Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Easiest to check the battery by charging it and using a voltmeter check the voltage across the terminals.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went to start her and she clicked and clicked. It's a new battery so I was suprised. Jumped her and while driving I noticed that the alternater gage was reading between 8 and 10. That means it's not charging enough to make up for what I am using right? I am not a brain doctor but shouldn't it read above 12 if it's charging? So, if it's the alternator, can I change that out myself? Or, do I need to pay big bucks to have someone else do it? Any ideas or thoughts are welcome. Paul

POST 2Original post

If you're driving and seeing 8-10 volts that is very low. Easiest to check the battery by charging it and using a voltmeter check the voltage across the terminals. If the battery charges but after driving is still that low, then yes, you probably have a bad alternator. You can change it out yourself. I've seen a good write-up here or on Renntech.
