Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

recently acquired a speedware harness bar for my 996. purchased 6 point harnesses to go with it. the only problem is i don't know where to attach the two sub belts - does anybody know where they go in a 996? i've searched around and recieved varying answers to this question. some say to attach it where the lap belts are attached, but i'm worried that suppose that one bolt comes undone, then 2 belts are loose instead of just one. so where can i mount the sub belts, and what hardware will i need to purchase to do so? thanks Robert

POST 2Original post

Get a proper seat (GT3 or otherwise). No problem then. Don't take shortcuts when it comes to safety. There are a number of threads on this.

POST 3Original post

You can mount them to the floor, but be careful to follow the harness manufacturer's instructions. Talk to Adam at Speedware Motorsports. I wouldn't worry about your harness coming loose if you mount the sub belts to the lap belt points.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the advice. as far as GT3 seats are concerned, i'm taking a calculated risk here. i've read most of the harness threads out there and i feel i am not taking a "shortcut". thank you for the warning, though.

POST 5Original post

You will need to change the lap belt attachment brackets for it to handle bothe the la belt and the sub-belt. I use Brey-krause. Here's a link to the parts: Harness hardware Good Luck, and be safe!

POST 6Original post

Robert, You've hit on a real problem with properly mounting a 6 pt harness in a 996. You should be drilling a hole right where that black box is under the seat. Porsche Motorsports makes a nice cross bar but I don't know if it will work in your car. Please don't use this board to learn how to attach your belts. Get a pro to do it. Jim
