Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Wow, this is the most bizarre incident/DIY repair I have ever seen on Rennlist.

Simple fix: Take the pannel down and use a "breaker bar" to bend the alum.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1999 C2 my 10 yearold left a basketball in garage. Shifter will not select any gears. How do you take off the bottom plastic cover and what will I need to do to connect the shifter linkage?
Find that hard to believe myself. Are you sure that is what the problem is? Can't imagine it is that fragile that a basketball could break apart the shift linkage. Not doubting you, just find it hard to believe.
What probably happened is that the basket ball lifted the brace that is located right below your trans and it pushed the alum. bar up "bent of course" into the shifter.....
Simple fix: Take the pannel down and use a "breaker bar" to bend the alum. brace down "straight".....
This will get you back on the road, you can then replace this part when you get some time and $$$.

So a basketball mugged your C2, huh? Well, that has to go down with the old "the dog ate my home work" line. Ok, we've given you enough grief about this. Check out the site below. The last page (pg 5) has a detailed diagram on how to remove the center console. If the first link one does not take you directly to the PDF file, try the second link and then click on the "996TT Swift Shift installation instructions." This should at least get you started.

Hope this helps.
Fixed the shifter it was the linkage was off the small ball on the side of the shifter. Had to unscrew the plastic bottom plate and it was an easy fix, but I did break the plastic cover under the transmission.
The Basket Ball cracked the cover. During the fix I popped the cable back on to the side of the transmission it was very easy to push it back on. I would think it would be a stronger connection to the side of the transmission. The Basket Ball
pushed up into the cover about 2-3 inches or more to displace the cable connection on the side of the transmission. These P Cars have very low ground clearance.
