Rod has been really helpful in helping me with my upgrade (replaced the speakers with Focal components in the dash and Focal subs in the doors, an Audison 5-channel amp, and an Alpine head unit with iPod interface.) Just run some ideas by him.

I recently put in a aftermarket headunit on mine too, I used the VW wire harness that I got from Circuit city .

Tell him the previous owner already swapped out the speakers and that you want to upgrade in stages -- head unit then amp then door speakers (and replace the other speakers.)

If you're replacing the stock head unit with a JVC and you don't have a stock Porsche amp, then won't you be driving the speakers from the JVC head unit?

Im not the biggest JVC fan but the texture looks simillar to whats in the Porsche and playing DVD's with mp3 or wma's on them is excellent, thats 9 gigs of Mp3's on a single disc if you use a dual layer one!!

I've done quite a bit of searching and just cant seem to find the info im looking for.
I want to upgrade my sound since I have the horrible base system in a 1999 coupe (no amp, no door speakers). My first upgrade will be just the head unit with a sub and amps following. (the previous owner upgraded to Oz Audio and Fosgate Frantic component systems. They are glued into the grills fairly well so Ill see how they sound before i yank them.
My question though is when I take apart my dash and pull out the Becker what kind of harness am I going to find back there? I am pretty sure the deck I will be installing is this JVC KD-AVX1. Im not the biggest JVC fan but the texture looks simillar to whats in the Porsche and playing DVD's with mp3 or wma's on them is excellent, thats 9 gigs of Mp3's on a single disc if you use a dual layer one!! the little screen is pretty cool too...
I have read lots of stuff about MOST harnesses and things like that, im just wondering if anyone knows if there is a stock conversion cable that I can just pick up and plug in.
Lastly, I've seen Becker stereo removal " keys" on ebay, do most new decks come with a key or should i pick one of these ebay ones up? Should be a pretty simple removal / install with the key right?

I recently put in a aftermarket headunit on mine too, I used the VW wire harness that I got from Circuit city . It was for the jetta I think... you might need to double check on all the color coding...but it fits fine.
I ordered the becker headunit removal keys but never needed it, since I removed the whole bracket and all out to put in the new head unit anyways... and no, the keys from other brand will not work.
