Was that another 996 engine exploding....no it was the 'Big Bang Machine', and so far the world did not develope a BLACK hole.
Leading evidence: ''big bang machine'' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Suggestion
I personally machined every injector base (and many other small parts) for the SOG (singlet Oxygen Generator) and personally help produce, assemble and test nearly every part in the SOG's (along with my co-workers at a very small company in the PNW)

Suggestion
At best I'd probably help in buying a modest used first car, then they would be on their own after that.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Was that another 996 engine exploding....no it was the 'Big Bang Machine', and so far the world did not develope a BLACK hole. Just thought I'd add a little scientific humor to the site this am.
I'd have no idea what you were talking about if Yahoo didn't have a splash about it on their home screen. The LHR doesn't make it into my daily conversations
I worked on parts that are involved in the machine, I feel proud its up.

GO SCIENCE !!
You just wait...no black hole yet because the LHC hasn't collided anything yet (today was just a test to see if the accelerator works). From what I understand they won't try to smash any protons for at least a few more months. I'd get your affairs in order if I were you (but don't worry about a will...we'll all be dead once the collisions begin!
That sound you heard was NOT a 996 enging exploding but rather the engine on my daughter's Isuzu Rodeo. Engines (Porsche or otherwise) don't run well when they are missing 4 quarts of oil! Don't ask me how I know...
Time to go car shopping... AGAIN!
My wife and I are in Dallas and my daughter is in Charlotte, NC. It should be interesting trying to buy her a car from 1,100 mile away.
You know, I've been thinking about this and I think the key is that SHE should be buying her replacement car, that might teach her to respect it a little more.
Actually, my daughter said the same thing. But then let's consider the situation. My daughter is:
- a Full Time Student currently taking 17 hours of classes
- working part time
- living in an apartment with two other girls
- getting her income supplemented on a monthly basis from Mom & Dad
Given the last point, if "she" pays for it, who is really paying for it?
It's kinda like you telling your two day old daughter that she needs to start saving up to buy clothes for Kindergarten.
Oh, I know. You end up paying for it one way or another, but if the money comes out of her pocket, then it's something that impacts her budget and would make her think twice about doing it again.
I see you point, but hopefully she has learned the lesson that she cannot just take a car for granted and there not be consequences.
Maybe a compromise is that she pays a 40 to 50% share.
I understand totally where you are coming from.
She realizes and admits it was her fault, and I know that she really feels badly about it. Two years ago it "wouldn't have been her fault" so she is maturing in that regard.
She has offered to make the down payment on a purchase or a lease, and has offered to make the monthly payments with "her" money. Since those payment would come out of her pocket, she woud feel the financial hit. So she is not expecting, nor will she get, a free ride.
I am seriously thinking of giving her the Honda, and the payments. That was I kill 3 birds with one stone; 1) dump the Honda, 2) dump the payments (well, sort of), and 3) I can get something that has a 6-speed, and has more than 14 HP!
This is sounding better all the time!
That's good. At least she realizes that she did something wrong and will pay something as a result. It's really sad to see a car die for lack of attention... although, that being said, I have heard of some people not changing the oil in their cars at all during the duration of their leases... wouldn't want to buy those cars when they come off lease.
I'm liking the sound of your plan so far.
...hopefully you saw the link I posted last week with the white aero C4 posted for sale not too far away from me.
My buddy's sister did something silimar once. She decided she better "get home really fast" after her "Low Coolant" light came on. Fried the head gasket and had to junk the car (it was an old car that belonged to her parents). Her parents basically told her "sorry, you are on your own." It was a valuable lesson for her and now she owns 30 apartment units I believe. Nice turnaround.
DO NOT put a Porsche or any other fast car in the hands of a student or any other very young driver!! Aks me how I know and I came out alive!!! Get her a SUV or something else with a lot of metal and a lot of airbags..remember that it accidents happen even without it being your fault..Yesterday some idiot drove right into the car behind me from a parkinglot...he/she scared the S out of me..2 secs sooner and I would have been "taken in the rear"!!
Just my 4 cents
The Porsche would not have been for my daughter, it would have been for me, and I would have given her my POS Honda.
However, we ended up leasing a Toyota Corolla for her for 48 months. I split the cap cost/title fees with her (almost 50/50) and she will make the monthly payments. She gets teh car on Tuesday andter they FedEx the paperwork to me on Monday.
yeah, I would probably do that on their first car (if they had shown that they were responsible enough to handle payments themselves), but to be honest, that would probably be it... both me and my wife bought our own first cars without parental assistance.
At best I'd probably help in buying a modest used first car, then they would be on their own after that.
I know that all circumstances are different, but I always shake my head when I see parents (I know that you're not doing this) buying new cars for teenagers. My philosophy is that kids should work to earn what they have in order to appreciate it - that being said, even if I can afford to put them into a nice car I will not because I know that they'll look after it better if they put their own money and hard work into buying something that they want.
My daughter got my wife's car (the Rodeo) 4 years ago when my wife got the MB CLK cab. It was 6 years old then and had about 70,000 mile on it at that time.
I remember when my daughter first started driving, if we needed something from the store, she would volunteer to go get it. After she had been driving for about 9 months, one evening my wife asked my daughter to get something from the store that we needed for dinner that night. My daughter said something like "I shouldn't have to go get the stuff all of the time."
My reply was "Devyn, you are right. You shouldn't HAVE to do that. By the way, I don't HAVE to let you drive the car, or pay for the gas and the insurance on the car. I could sell the car and eliminate all of that cost. You could take the bus to high school."
My daughter immediately turned to my wife and asked "What did you need from the store, Mom?" We never had that issue again.
One of my better moments!
Your wife is smart!!
to be honest I will be helping my kids their whole lifes ( well mine ) this is what my parents did for me....and co -signing a lease is the least you can do.... If my kids go to collega ( I mean when!) I will help them any which way I can for them to be able to study and get good grades...bad grades means: you are on your own!!
I came from a school where the "value of a dollar" is taught at a very young age. My parents never failed to remind the kids how fortunate our family is. We, the kids, worked for allowances and the amount was distributed according to how well the job was done. It was not a lot of money but it is a good lesson for me.
I don't think I will give my kids the best of everything but they certainly will have the privilage to them.
It's the way my wife was raised (not so much me) and we're taking that approach with our kids. So far, it's working. They are careful with what they spend, and are shouldering their share of grad and med school expenses.
I'm a big believer that if parents don't let their kids fall on their asses and fail, they'll never learn how to get up on their own and be successful. Life lessons and all that.
Bingo, that's where I come from. I've seen kids (in my family) fail in life because they were never taught to struggle or fail - it's an important part of parenting to give them these skills. Kids that want for nothing will be ill prepared for the world and always be reliant on others for help. Kids that have to earn everything will know how to fight, achieve and value what they have.
I worked damned hard for everything I have and I wouldn't have it any other way. I know the value of everything and take nothing for granted.
