Nor did I use the anti-skid additive that is available separately.

If you go Epoxy or PolyAspartic, you have to start with a clean floor - diamond sanded down and primed properly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey.
My father is building a garage and Im thinking to buy some nice floor for it and wonder what kind of floor you guys have used, what kind of material?
Regards // Norb
I've tried several epoxy floors but have never been satisfied with the results. I finally put down plastic garage tiles over the epoxy and love it!
http://www.racedeck.com/
They sell them (or a version of) at Costco for a reasonable price.
I started with epoxy from Rustoleum, it was junk and lifted immediately. After a few years it got so bad I couldn't stand it and stripped it all down and went with the epoxy from Griot's Garage and couldn't be happier after a year. Mine is post #16.

How would these tiles fair against humid conditions when there is dampness rising from the concrete?
I'm also considering a new garage floor along with driveway paving next year.
Thanks for any insight...
Google up some PolyAspartic floor coatings - expensive stuff, but it hardens enough so you can drive on it in 1 day apparently. 2 part Epoxy can be good I hear too.
If you have a real winter in your area, the tiles probably are going to be bad for your concrete floor, and a hassle to clean.
If you go Epoxy or PolyAspartic, you have to start with a clean floor - diamond sanded down and primed properly.
I used the Behr 1 part Epoxy - I have to reapply every 2 years. It costs me under $100.00 to do it. It looks nice when it's fresh, but it always comes off in 2 years. But that's cheaper than the $3600.00 quote to get a PolyAspartic coating applied.
If money is no object - go with PolyAspartic though.
Mine is 12" squares that come in a 3' square sheet of 1/2 inch thick ESD (electro static discharge) Clean Room grade rubber mats that i completely covered my floot in from the pile my company was going to throw away... Est cost to purchase $5k (my garage is 2 car standard ~ 22'x24')
Stupidest, most expensive stuff on record, but... I bet its one of a kind!

They have raised quarter size circles in them, so they do pretty well when they are wet. The only time I have had problems is when I do woodworking projects in the garage. Sawdust turns them into an ice rink!
Overall, I'm pretty happy with them. I think it cost $800 to do a 3-car garage and took about 3 hours to snap them together. I spray the garage out with a hose every other month or so and they always look like new. I justified it by thinking that I can just pop them apart and take them with me whenever I move (although that probably won't happen).
If you live up North and drive in with snow on the tires, I wouldn't recommend black. Shows everything. But that will be the case with epoxy or anything else as well.
I got the snap together ones also but I got the 13" tiles instead of the 12". No real difference except that now I have to find 13" ones if I want to expand or replace which are harder to find than the 12" ones. Very happy with it. I got mine off eBay from a company called greg's equipment sales or something like that. They sometimes sell bulk "discolored" ones. I got the discolored white ones for something like $1.19 each and they looked perfectly fine to me. They are easy to clean and look nice, not very slippery either as they have a diamond plate top. My wife did poke a hole in 1 with her high heels (she's not that big really
) but other than that no problems at all.
Dirt. With poison ivy vines creeping in from the cracks in the clap-board siding. Copperhead snakes under the kindling wood piled in the corner. Tin roof.
Worked on a lot of motors in such a place. It got soul.
I used Rustoleum Epoxyshield Professional two-part epoxy finish on my garage floors, and I'm very satisfied with the results. The finish is shiny, smooth and reflective. Also very easy to clean off stains from leaves, etc. You'll get great results if you follow the directions precisely. I did not sprinkle in the color chips, which would make the application process more difficult. Nor did I use the anti-skid additive that is available separately. No signs of wear after one year. One coat will take you around 1.5 hours of prep, and 1 hour of "painting" on the stuff, and you have to work very fast (to prevent drying while you're still applying) or have a helper.
Two coats on a bare concrete floor (2-car garage) will cost you around $220 (two kits). The key is to get the professional solvent based kit and not the water based kit that they sell at Lowe's or Home Depot. It's kind of hard to get since Rustoleum paint dealers don't stock it and probably have never ordered it before. You can order it from
www.garage-toys.com
, but shipping is pricey due to the weight.
I realize this is a garage floor thread so here is my garage midway through its makeover. I painted the floor over eight years ago so it's due for a change. Not sure if I will go with industrial strength epoxy or race deck tiles because of the cost - you can buy a nice set of tires or wheels for what they are asking. Keep the pictures coming... It's good to see everyone's take on their ultimate garage.

Nice timing on this thread. I really do not want to try epoxy--I am sure I would flunk the water test. I noticed no one has tried those roll out coverings. Any word on these? You would end up with a seam down the middle of a 2 car garage. The tiles do look interesting, however.
I actually have carpet. There was a deal when we were buying carpet for the basement at home depot ($99 for install...intire house) so we bought indoor/outdoor carpet...the glue down type. I was expecting it to last for a year or so but going on our third winter and so far so good...i'll try to take some pics and upload. (cost around $250 installed...three car garage).
I primered my garage wall and painted the wall using exterior paint. The reaon being is that I plan on hosing off the floor with water which has held up with the exterior paint.
As far as the floor, I layed down Armstrong VCT tile. Cost is about .40 per tile at Home Depot.
Alex: Those tiles look great. I thought about going that route but was worried that they wouldn't hold up to the hot tires and would stain easily. Looks pretty resilient to me. I'm assuming you used adhesive to put them down. Have you had them down long?
In the past I have tried epoxy and various floor tile options. Have Por-15 now and am very happy with the results after two years it still looks like the day I painted it.
Por-15 Floor Armor
It is not cheap, but you don't have to do it again.
Noby - the CostCo tile is the stuff to go with - although I know you don't have CostCo where you live!
The race guys use it in the pits, easy to lay, easy to keep clean, look great - and won't peel off like paint.
If you can't source in your homeland, drop me an Email and we can look at local CostCo plus shipping round the world
