Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It sounds logical to me because they share the same transmission also the same TCU is used although with a different programming.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the following question. For the 996TT and from 2002 onwards the automatic gearbox in all the 996 was the 722.6 from Mercedes Benz. For those with a tuned 996TT it was also common practice to modify the gearbox and reprogram the TCU to handle the higher torque. Reprogramming the TCU made the gearbox also faster to shift. Is the TCU in the non turbo 996 cars the same part as for the 996TT? If yes I have someone who most probably is able to reprogram the TCU for my 996 C2. Together with some small mods in the valve body and paddles on the steering wheel I hope to bring the driving experience and responsiveness of the gearbox to a higher level. I found the following part numbers 996.618.180.04 /.06 and .07 But the description of these units is somewhat vague and unclear and leaves the reader into doubt which unit fits which car. It sounds logical to me because they share the same transmission also the same TCU is used although with a different programming. Anybody that knows more about this, that would be great. Otherwise I will need to spend hours of work to go and dig into the car to have a look at which unit is in my car. Thanks alot
