Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Valves have to be adjusted manually and 2 are almost impossible to get at.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust manually and 2 are almost impossible' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust manually and 2 are almost impossible' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello Frieds,
I know these are two different cars. Here is the dilemma I have: I need to decide between a 99 Carrera 4 Cab with approx 60K miles, or a 91 C2 Turbo with approx 50K miles. Both cars are VERY well maintained, with full service records. Price on the 996 would be just about stealing the car. Price on the C2 Turbo is about average. It's a shame how much the 996 Cab (even with 4WD) has depriciated. I am pretty sure the C2 Turbo will pretty much retain it's value. Do you think the 996 Cab will depricate even further? Which car would you pick?
I would love your opinions.
Thanks,
Jay
Well, first of all, I think you have to decide and be sure of what type of car do you want to own. Its not a good thing triyng to choose a car only in a matter of price.
For example, in my case I know that I don't like cabrios and I prefer the coupes. I wouldn't buy a triptronic car over a manual and I would go for c2 instead of c4.
So my opinion is: be sure of what type of car do you want, and then search it.
You are right. I should not and will not make a selection based on price alone. I have always wanted a Cabriolet and I have always wanted a Turbo. The Cab I have found is in my favorite color combo, the Turbo is my second favorite color combo. The cab is 1 of many thousands. The Turbo is 1 of 674. The C4 with the hardtop can almost be an everyday car. The Turbo will most likely be a garage queen.
buy the cab
the total cost of ownershipe of the turbo will be vastly higher than the 996 cab - is it worth it if its just going to be sitting in the garage?
Jay,
As pointed out, maintenance may very well be the deciding factor. Check what the 60k tune-up will cost, for example. For the 964 Cab I had, it was around $1200, and that's non-turbo. Cost of pretty much everything else on the Turbo will be more expensive as well--rotors for instance used to be about twice as much as the non-turbo. All this is easily checked and compared to 996 prices in Excellence, Panorama, on-line, etc.
If you are used to paying high maintenance costs, or are an avid DIY'er this may be less of an issue.
The 964 Turbo series was IMHO one of the very best looking 911's ever. On the other hand, the 996 Cabs are simply fantastic cars (and actually pretty close in performance to the old turbos).

I like the older 964...Key word there older, If i were looking it would not be for something that old, lots of what if's here. Is it a daily driver, Are you buying the car so you can get your money back, new technology vs older, comfort vs spirited driving.. You see where i am going with this. I would not buy a car that old......even as nice as they are to look at. And they both will get cheaper and cheaper to buy each passing year......This is something you need to decide..
I am going from a 79 SC, so either of them are NEW in comparison. Neither would most likely be a daily driver. Cost of ownership is a good point. Unfortunately the C2 was not available in convertible. That would have made the decision easy.
