Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bought my 04 Targa new this past December. Put one short trip on her and put her away for the winter. This past weekend my wife and I made the 2 hour trip to the NJ shore in the new car. We easily fit our luggage in. Between the back seat and the front trunk we had room to spare. What a blast to drive. The trip down and back was more fun than the stay. The car came with 17" 10 spoke wheels fitted with PZero 255/40 ZR 17 N3 on the rear and 205/50 ZR 17's N3 on the front. My question is this. The car rode over bumps and seams in the paving very hard. Is this normal ? Can I put more rubber under me? Would a tire or wheel size change help with this. Tire pressure was 36 psi. The ride itself was very comfortable. It was just "hard" over the bumps. Thanks for any suggestions. Dann

POST 2Original post

While I am no expert, I don't think there is much you can do. Making the wheels larger to 18's will only make the ride harder. As for the specific tire, they have an aspect ratio (40 and 50) that would indicate that the section height is as "smooth as its going to get for a Porsche. Some tires ride smoother than others, but its not going to make that much of a difference, in my opinion. If it becomes too much a problem, I guess you could get softer springs, but that might make the car a little bouncy and less of a Porsche. Finally, it could be that Jersey roads just suck this time of year. I am in Brooklyn, NY and I moved over to my summer rims this weekend and the ride is pretty harsh.
