I'm already booked into the paint shop to get it changed from silver to white.

I ran no front plate on my 986S and it was a real pain.

Suggestion
Right now I'm already talking about replacing her car with a Panamera or an M3 sedan and I think the seats might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That looks SWEET! It's amazing how the aerokit transforms the total look, it's almost like a different car. It goes from looking like a "souped up VW beetle" to looking like a true exotic, so aggresive, with the sharp lines all with such amazing flow in design. Truly beautiful. Hopefully I'll have mine aeroed some day.
By the way, I agree you should update your wheels. I think it'd look pretty good with some MKII GT3 wheels, 997 sport designs, or CCW C10/C12, they're more aggressive & sharp looking, & thus a perfect match for your MKII aero. If I had an aero on mine, I'd put the badge that just says "911" instead of Carrera, or otherwise leave it badgeless.
Conragulations man, it looks amazing
I like the 911 badge! For the record, I would NEVER badge it GT3, when I said rebadge I was just talking about the Carrera badge but I do like the 911 one!
The wheels will have to stay for a while, I need to do a brake job and than want to do suspension. maybe down the road the wheels.... I still like my wheels and they look better in person with the polished lips than in he photos.
CWAY27, Cup lip spoiler is in the near future, used the one that came with the bumper for now.
Thanks for all the compliments all!
Ya, I know, I've never understood why people put other model badges on their car, that's pretty lame. Haha, although it wouldn't be as bad as this one guy I saw on my last trip to Guadalajara 2 months ago. He was driving a Honda Civic & he replaced the Honda badge with a Ferrari one! I was like
WTF?? But the 911 badge would look sweet, it looks GT3
style
because it's also 3 characters, but doesn't look like you're trying to imitate. I bet everytime you look at your car you look like this:
I think I'm going to go order a Nissan badge to put on my car now
Car looks great, well done. I like the wheels you have on your car now. I would add the badge ... either 911 or Carrera - don't go GT3.
You could change out the wheel center caps and hood badge to black and silver ... fairly inexpensive mod. Eric at Bumper Plugs has top quality hood badges and center caps. You can also get the center caps at Sunset or Suncoast.
Hey Jake, car looks sweet with new wing! ... hadn't seen it before.
That is one beautiful car. Well Done!!
IMHO:
1. I would leave the wheels alone.
2. Perhaps a "911" rear badge in silver.
3. Other than spending money on maintainance costs. Start saving for PSS9s or 10s. A sponsor was selling PSS9s for $1800 shipped just two weeks ago.
I agree but it's just not worth the trouble, here in NJ the town cops just love to give tickets for that. I don't need the aggravation.
I ran no front plate on my 986S and it was a real pain.
Thanks!!
Kitchen???? You don't need no stinkin' kitchen!!!!
Marc, your car looks great! Nicely done!
I have always preferred badges on the 996. I would add the badge, either Carrera or 911. My personal preference would be a silver Carrera badge. You can get one from Eric at Bumperplugs for about $30.
Instead of changing the brakes, just change the pads/rotors and paint the calipers red. The red would look AWESOME behind your sport designs. That would add depth and definition to the wheel and really make the wheels & calipers POP. Cheap mod too, less thatn $25.
Thats the plan, my pads are shot so I am going to do the brake job and paint the calipers. whats the best stuff to paint the calipers with?
I was leaning to the Carrera badge till Raphael posted the 911 badge on my car... thats pretty damn sharp.
Sold my Mk 1 Skirts in seconds! I have a buyer for my old front bumper picking it up next week and I plan to keep my original rear lid for a while.
I bet your old bumper would be a nice upgrade for a Boxster owner.
Ahh, that would explain it. Last time I looked bumpers were going for around $300 on eBay - I just didn't want to deal with shipping. I might post mine as local pick-up only and see if anyone bites.
<votes>
911 in Black (although mine is Naked)
Looks awesome and I too am jealous!
I agree Hate the front plate but the state I live in requires it and will ticket in a hearbeat. Even smoked covers will get a big ole ticket so we get to put that blazing white badge of disgrace on the front of our black beauty
PS new kitchen in... working on the new bathroom... understand the juggling for priority (and the wife's ummmm COMMENTS)
LMAO

Hey Marc
The Saga continues!!
DPS charged my Credit Card on Aug 1st for the Full aero kit.
To date, only the side skirts have been delivered.
I had read all the complaints about DPS and their slow shipping, but I was hoping that most were due to the custom paint So I ordered my stuff unpainted, I guess that answers that question
I should have went with Mike Shaw
I give up - all the excitement and enthusiasm I had is all gone
That sucks! I dont understand why it takes so long, My Porsche dealer had my bumper and skirts in 5 days and MASHAW shipped the day after I called him.
Maybe you should call your CC card company, How frustrating!
Marc,
Check out post #8 in this thread to get a list of the products I used to paint my calipers (on the Porsche, not the Honda).
There are better pics on page 2 of the thread.
Painted Calipers
Bummer about DPS. I thought vendors cannot charge CC until goods are shipped. There may be exceptions on deposits but certainly not the complete amount.
That is a "made to order" business model which explains why he is the cheapest and also late with delivery. I don't know him but it sounds like he is only a middle man ordering from a manufacturer.
Pretty radical Mark! I love the look of the Aero side skirts, but would never do a rear wing myself. I like the subtle lines of the original design.
And if you don't re-badge, it does look like it was hit and re-sprayed.
Now our cars don't look the same!
Ahh, I didn't think of it like that. He once told me that he buys parts from around the world where he can get them.
Me neither.
He always promises tracking numbers and I have never received one... sadly just another one of his lines.
Yeah, I was on the fence with the wing but I have to admit I like it. I wanted somthing a but radical, I found the car a little blah to look at.
I will have to pick up a new Carrera badge next week.
We should get a coffee meet going before the nice weather is gone!
Okay - a MK 1 OEM wing is on it's way to me as we speak. Mondo kudos to Yasuro for selling me his wing after he replaced it with a stock wing. I can't wait for it to arrive on Friday so that I can get it into the shop for painting.... with a bit of luck I'll have it installed in a week or so.
Yup, I'm ecstatic.
Halim saw I was looking for a wing and offered me his. It shipped today and will be here on Friday.
I'm already booked into the paint shop to get it changed from silver to white.
Well here is the latest in the DPS saga
Apparently My front bumper was damaged during shipping and somehow made its way back to him before every getting to me.
Still waiting for a tracking number on the rear deck lid
Yup, gotta agree. They don't inpsect in transit and will deliver to you regardless. The box was damaged in my last delivery and the truck driver watched me open the box to be sure that the contents were not damaged.
They're using Mach 1 trucking for these deliveries and they are not a sophisitcated outfit.
I wouldn't be surprised if you never get that. As I said, I've NEVER gotten a tracking number from them, no matter how hard I push. I don't think that Mach1 does tracking.
Yeah, after the mess with DPS I was not in a hurry to jump on another wing. My need for a wing came at the right time for Yasuro to sell. Things worked out well for both of us.
Now I just have to get my refund from DPS... Dayton says that he has issued it, but after 5 days I'm not yet seeing it on my card, so I'm not sure if he's playing his usual games of not. It's pretty bad when you cannot trust something someone tells you because they have a track record of being unreliable.
with my problems with UPS on getting my stock decklid, i went with FedEx for shipping to wellardmac. and of course, i had the mk1 wing packed professionally with a 2-piece box. about as strong a box as can be had, according to the packager.
knock on wood, etc., but hopefully we won't run into any issues.
Wayne, getting a Taco! Marc, getting a larger wing! Everyone is going Aero crazy! Pretty soon I'll be the only one with a stock C2!
We should do a Starbucks coffee meet up one weekend day soon, before the 17's go on for the winter!
Wayne, good for you. If you remember, I Photoshopped a wing on your car after you got the Sport Design wheels mounted. Here is what it will look like. BTW - I can't believe you took so long to get the wing.
After you get the wing installed, people won't mistake your sig pic for mine!
I'm up for coffee and Porsches! Life is a little less crazy finally so I can break away now and than.
I got the damn mod bug (as always) and I cant stop!!! I'm a modaholoic!
It could be worse, at least we are all using stock looking kits and nobody here has put anything horrific on their 996 (yet)
I am immune to the Mod bug! Grey side markers and a few cubby hole add-ins and I'm done!
At this point I think any morning coffee meet would include one or two of my kids, so the wife doesn't give me grief! Maybe when they start school I'll get more Porsche time allocated!?
Yeah, its to bad. Dayton seems like he means well but it's poorly executed.
I need to buy some front rotors and stuff for a full brake job, Sunset my best bet??
I just called an left anpother messgae for dayton, only this one was requesting a refund. Let see if he returns that call.
Ironically I just found out a buddy that moved to florida is starting a porsche parts business (
www.rennsport-one.com
). I'm going to see what he can do for me
..and you cannot believe how much I appreciate it.
I'd hate to open the box and see it damaged. In the scheme of things, paying a little more for packing and shipping is worth it when the alternative is having the wing arrive and be damaged.
I checked Fedex this morning and the wing was sitting in OH.
I'd be in for that.
That would make for a great photo.
I do remember and I've had that image in the back of my mind for a long time. It will be interesting to see the photoshop image next to the real image.
I'm running out of steam on my mods... I was tempted by Carrera Mike's GT3 seats, but I think my wife would kill me if I suggested it. Right now I'm already talking about replacing her car with a Panamera or an M3 sedan and I think the seats might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
Yeah, I know. He's a really nice guy and says the right things, but his words and actions don't match. I feel really bad for him, as I'd like to say that she does all the right things, but dealing with him can be a real pain on the big ticket items that I've ordered from him.
Good luck! You know when my order started going wrong I almost wanred him not to screw up your order, but thought it best to keep my mough shut for fear of jinxing you.
... the wing left at 6:49am
I am still waiting for quotes from Sunset. I know they just had a hurricane roll through. But its a little bit frustrating and hard to believe that no one wants to do business with paying customers. Are we so demanding?
I got all the correct factory stickers for the new lid, I used a photo I took of a local GT3 for placement as well a pictures of a factory Mk II Aero and my old lid.
Seems placement is inconsistent between cars but I'm fine with the way it came out.
You should have done it before you painted and installed your deck lid. Its a pain in the butt to have to remove the lid again and careful with the new paint job when installing the grills.
Okay, Yasuro is my God.
The wing arrived in one piece and in one amazing piece of packaging - I've never seen a part packaged so well. Nice job and thank you very much for parting with such a beautiful piece of equipment.
This was a shining example of the best of Rennlist. Yasuro is a stand-up guy and a dream to deal with - I wish all purchases were this easy and painless.
I'm actually going to remove that and the stickers this afternoon. If that goes well the plan is to get it cleaned so that it can go into the shop on Monday.
I honestly didn't think that the emblem was reusable, so was just going to let it clutter my bench for a while.
you're welcome. and honestly, you're no slouch in the stand up department either. quick pay, painless, etc. enjoy and i hope you get it back in time to enjoy it prior to your big "event".
Thanks!
Yeah, I'm hoping for a quiet weekend.
I'll get the wing into the shop on Tuesday and hopefully installed before my wife decides that the baby is cooked.
I can hope... don't think I'm that lucky, but I can try.
Our cars ARE 911's! They are just designated the 996 by Porsche to signify the series of 911. My insurance card says "2000 Porsche 911", and I have no trouble telling someone my car is a 911.
That said, I wouldn't put a 911 badge on, because the 40th Anniv. cars came with that badge. I like sticking with stock sot Carrera it is!
I don't dispute that, but my title says Porsche Carrera, so that's the way I refer to it.
As you said, only the 40th anniv came with that badge, so it lacks authenticity to badge any other car that way (IMHO). With the exception of that model I am not aware of Porsche putting a 911 emblem on any other 996.
Hey, pot calling the kettle black!
I spent the weekend cleaning and doing touch-up on the wing...
Any sane person would have just left it to the shop to do those things, but I wanted to be sure that a couple of areas with cracked paint were done right and not just painted over. The wing is dazzlingly shiny... two washes with lots of soap and water to remove the wax, copious rinses to remove the soap, then two surface rubs with rubbing alcohol. Nice and clean - looks like new.
All done and repackaged and ready to take into the shop tomorrow.
I'll let them add the emblem because I know for sure that if I do it I'll spend an hour measuring and taping lines to be sure that I have perfect alignment... I have better things to do with that hour, so I'll let them do it and beat them if they don't get it right.
You are bad, I cleaned my car yesterday and it looks stunning!
Popped my daughter herb seat and we went cruising!
Best family car ever!
Also I ordered a Carrera emblem this morning ..
I agree, the boys (ages 9 and 10) dont fight 1/2 as much in the back of the P-car as they do in the Suburban.. maybe because there is not enough room to actually swing at each other? I kind of liken it to dog training.... a smaller kenel and they wont pee or poo in it, too big and they will !!!
Best Family road trip car ! (of coarse we are all dead tired after a couple hundred miles, even me, but OH what fun it is! )
Hey, at least I admit that I'm a perfectionist.... a constant source of misery in my life.
I took the wing into the body shop this morning and with a little luck it will be back on Friday. I asked them to do the emblem.
Yeah, I know, I'd be the same and it would take me forever to triple check everything down to the last millimeter. I know what activities make me miserable and high precision jobs are the worst... a 10 minute job can take hours while I do my OCD do-overs.
My body shop is my Porsche dealer, so I figure that if they can't get it right, then I've got bigger problems. These guys are good - they continually tell me about their high standards, so I expect nothing less from them.... these are the same guys that refused to warranty my side skirts because they didn't like the newer Porsche design that used double sided tape instead of bolts. I had a talk with them this morning and I think all will be well.
My body shop does all the work for the local Porsche dealer as well, I'm still putting the emblem on myself!
I wonder how Dominick and the DPS saga is going?
still going - I spoke to Dayton on friday and he said that the damaged parts came back to him and that he was fedex-ing another set out and they should be here by thursday. I told him if there not here by thursday, I want my money back.
I really torn because I know the second I get the refund, the parts will show up and I'd have to start the entire process all over again.
I just want this over with already
I was wondering how you were doing also. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
My refund hasn't shown up yet. He promised me that it had been processed when I spoke with him last Tuesday. At this point it's hard to know when to trust him. I'll give it a few more days, then I'll take it up with the credit card company.
When it came to the bumper and side skirts (at the time I bought mine) he had the best prices around. He was very hard to beat. as you said, it gets to a point where the hassles overwhelm the advantages of the price.
Bugger!
I just went into the body shop to pick up my spoiler. It looked great, but I found that they damaged the paint and chipped the fiberglass when they pulled it off of the rig thy used to hold it for painting... it will now be ready on Tuesday. I decided to take the car in on Monday night to allow them to do the install and dry send the wing when it's on the car.... so the wing will arrive and be on the car when I pick it up on Tuesday evening.
I will say that despite the flaw it looked awesome... I can't wait to get it installed.
Soon! That was part of the reason I asked them to do thee spoiler install as I knew that otherwise I might have to wait a couple of weeks to do the install... easier to just let them do everything on Tuesday.
So, where are the photos of your car with Mfletch's spoiler on it?
come on, so where are the photos?
I managed to get my car into the dealer today for the install of the new spoiler... all despite the birth of my daughter this afternoon.
...see, now that's commitment.
Congratulations - yes THAT is commitment. Hope she's healthy, happy, and by the way what the hell are you posting here for?
As "they" say on the board - pics?
Cheers!
Thanks guys - your thoughts are very much appreciated.
I have to say that thankfully my kids take after my wife... although I can tell that my daughter does have my dark hair and my long piano player fingers.
I slept really well last night - yesterday was a very long day... nothing better for waking you up than your wife shaking you at 2am and telling you that it's time to go to the hospital.
Yasuro - decklid looks great - if you're adding an emblem back on there I'd go with black - I think that it will make for a nice contrast
So, here are my preliminary photos. The car is still sitting at the dealer awaiting a part, but it's pretty much done and looks awesome. I can't thank Yasuro enough for salling me his baby.
I'll have more photos once I get the car back and cleaned up.
Wayne,
Congrats on the new arrival...... no, I'm talking about your daughter! Yes, it is a good thing that she takes after her mother, 'cuz I've seen pic of you and..... well, I'll just leave it at that!
What a beauty!.... no Wayne, I mean your daughter!
< Tim whispers so only Wayne can hear > "Wayne, you need to concentrate here.... we are talking about your daughter, not the wing!"
She really looks sweet!.... no Wayne, your daughter!
< Tim thinks to himself > Sheeze! Wayne sure has a one track mind!
Oh yeah, the wing looks good too!
Wayne, she's precious. Did you have Holbert's put a wing on her, too? Oh, that's her hair!! And it's OEM!! She's truly adorable. And healthy, thank God!! Congratulations!!
Okay, I finally got my babies back this afternoon.. here are photos of the car and the aero kit.
...well worth doing.
...need to go and do some aggressive driving.
Impressive!
Pretty close... as you said, yours was a little more rounded and pitched to give more downforce, but it was way better than anything I could do.
