This is not a probability of success.

My old 996 had the thing lubricated a couple of times and after each time it operated much more easily.

How do these not last for the life of the car (my clutch was never even replaced)?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

.....would the clutch feel different in each one? I drove another P..since buying mine, and the clutch was as light, and smooth as silk as I've ever felt.....minel takes more effort, and doesn't feel as smooth....... adjustment time?

POST 2Original post

USUALLY, a newer clutch is softer and smoother, as it wears out, the effort to engage become higher an take up point may change and the travel may become less smooth.

POST 3Original post

i was always under the impression that porsches...996's at least have a very hard clutch pedal, requiring more force (than say..an RX-8, honda civic, mazda 3 which all have lighter/smaller clutches and softer pedals)

POST 4Original post

My 2001 C4 clutch felt like a mack truck by the time is was gone... my 2004 was so soft I stalled the car pulling off the lot. As they wear down they get much harder.

POST 5Original post

Could also be the clutch spring. My old 996 had the thing lubricated a couple of times and after each time it operated much more easily. Finally, I had to get the spring replaced and the difference was night & day. The funny thing is that my 6 month old GT3 with 3k miles is having the same issue and the dealer recently lubed the spring. This must be one of the dumbest design flaws ever! How do these not last for the life of the car (my clutch was never even replaced)?

POST 6Original post

Just had my clutch replaced, and it feels much softer. Dealer warned me I might stall a couple of times, but I actually find it easier to launch.

POST 7Original post

SO, IF YOU DROVE 10 PORCHES....... You still won't know what a clutch in the Porsche feels like Sorry couldn't resist. Harry
