Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this topic has been beaten to death--well--sorry but here goes. Just installed my 1st mods (b&m ssk, fabspeed exhaust, carcrafter pedals) and I got the bug real bad. I feel like I'm sitting in a dark corner of a crack house but instead of lighting up, I'm reading accessory cataloges HELP I"M SICK! Now I want to do the intake and i would like to get your opinions(we got a few opinions around here, don't we?) #1 which is the best intake kit around #2 should I use a highflow filter and which one #3 Will there be low end improvement in response and power 2000 to 3000 rpm is a little flat or maybe that's normal for a 3.4L 3000 to 4000 rpm she starts to come alive 5000 on up--WOW--

POST 2Original post

I tried the Fabspeed airbox kit with the Maxflows, I didn't find it a good combo for me. The throttle response is better, but the added intake noise was annoying on my car at least. I'll sell it cheap. I like the stock airbox with the Fabspeed mufflers better.

POST 3Original post

Im Wouldnt mind being annoyed..Pm Sent...If its avail

POST 6Original post

Oh that's good. Feed his sickness...bwahahahahahaha Chad

POST 8Original post

The first thing I would do if you want to get the lowend power back is to put back on the stock exhaust. You have greatly reduced the torque at low rpm's by reducing the back pressure without increasing compression. A more free flowing intake will not increase the lowend power without proper reprogramming of the ECU. If you are simply trying to get a better sound from the fabspeed, then you should be happy, but an engine needs a specific balance between intake pressure and exhaust pressure, especially at the lower engine speeds.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That make sense 1999 but I do want the sound. I know the way things are going I'll be chipping the ECU soon...Jeff

POST 10Original post

the evo intake looks good. kinda pricey but you actually get more than the fabspeed kit. evo intake the fabspeed kit is such a rip off! pretty much you are taking out the internal baffle/box and slapping on the silicone hose. the faux carbon ring does nothing and is actually so fragile i broke it and left it off. no harm no foul. another thing about the fabspeed kit is that it still lets warm air in! there is a grid of hole on the bottom of the airbox which i assume is for drainage. the best part of the kit is the BMC filter, HA! i'm glad i got it cheap from a local dude who switched to a TT. the low price made it worth it. i got it for the BMC filter price alone. do yourself a favour and get the BMC filter then do the orange plug. rant over.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tell me about the orange plug?

POST 12Original post

click on the link ORANGE CAP MOD and renntech.org thread be aware that this is only for sound modification. the performance gain (if any) would come from the BMC filter. i forgot to mention that the fabspeed kit adds a plug to plug up the hole caused by removing the internal baffle. doing the orange plug mod doesn't take advantage of this. even though i haven't tried the evo, i would get it over the fabspeed. in fact, it will may be my next mod. i had the evo cold air/cone filter kit on my old boxster and it sounded AMAZING. the only drawback was that it tripped the CEL light because it fouled the MAF. the fix was as easy as cleaning the MAF with electrical contact cleaner. i would think that it may have the same affect on 996es too.
