Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

EDIT: After doing some google'ing and reading about the newer 3.6L engine and the newer 2 stage variable cam adjust and other improvements, I've decided to set my eyes on nothing less than a 2002.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've seen a link in the buyers guide thread to an option decoder but not to a web page that lists each option for every 996 year? I'm going to try and afford a 2002+ so I can get the 3.6L. I'd like to see all available options for 1999, 2000, & 2001 as well as options for years 2002, 2003, & 2004. I'm for sure going to buy either a 2000, 2001, or 2002. 2003's seem to start at $30,000 and that's just too much for me right now. Thanks! Alex EDIT: After doing some google'ing and reading about the newer 3.6L engine and the newer 2 stage variable cam adjust and other improvements, I've decided to set my eyes on nothing less than a 2002. Doing a quick search on AutoTrader though only yielded 3 candidates under $30K with 6-spds and reasonable mileage.

POST 2Original post

Not that many 02's under 30K yet... but the way this market is Im sure that will change!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm considering these, in this exact order: $??,??? - 2003 C4S - 38,500 - Grey/Grey - 6-Spd, CD (Florida) $??,??? 2002 C2 17,700 Blue/Tan, 6-spd, CD (2,500 miles) $??,??? - 2003 C2 - 19,962 - Grey/Grey - 6-Spd, CD (New York) $29,900 - 2002 C2 - 63,037 - Silver/Grey - 6-Spd, CD (2,385 miles) $29,995 - 2003 C2 - 55,443 - Green/Grey - 6-Spd, CD (2,389 miles) $25,250 - 2002 C2 - 80,413 - Blue/Grey - 6-Spd, CD (95 miles) I'm sure I'll get out bid over $30K on the C4S though...

POST 4Original post

I think you should dig deeper into your pockets and poney up for say... a 2004 40th anniversary car with no more than say.... 42k miles.

POST 5Original post

IMHO, you'll be money ahead first deciding what your budget is, then finding the very best car you can for that price. I wouldn't be so hung up on a particular year. I'd much perfer a low mileage '99 with a replacement motor, right options, in near mint condition to an average to somewhat rough high mile '01 or '02. Maybe I'm just partial to my car, a very highly optioned, near mint '99, low mileage car that to me seems worth a lot more than a few beaters I've seen on the lots, with hammered interiors, curbed wheels, filthy, greasy and rusty under carriages, badly faded poorly repainted exteriors, etc, etc. And some of these have been as new as an '05! My car looks like a well cared for 1 or 2 year old car by comparison.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I don't exactly see allot of 1999's or 2000's advertising that they already have replacement engines so it's tough to search for them. I'm sure some want to hide that fact for some reason. I don't plan on settling for anything less than a 9pt out of 10 car. I have however found a 2002 in my price range that is the EXACT color combo I've always had in mind from the word go PLUS it's a 6-spd in a coupe! If things work out with this car I wouldn't even care if it's only an 8 out of 10 because it's so close to ideal for me it would be miles away from settling! I'll only need to add the aero kit! I'm going to make an offer on it pending a PPI tomorrow.
