Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's a real car, right now. I know this was posted recently, but my sources tell me this car is real, and real right now.

POST 2Original post

I will need one for my "Grandchildren's" car seats.. Rick

POST 7Original post

I like that car a lot. Looks a bit like a 612 Scaglietti, but unmistakeably Porsche. I'd lose the rear doors though.

POST 8Original post

The four doors don;t bother me as much as I thought they would. We'll have to wait and see. I'm sure that it will be Cayenne driven. With Mercedes and BMW offering sedans with power upwards of 500 HP, they will have no choice.

POST 9Original post

has any other photos surfaced? I'm curious to see how the back looks..

POST 10Original post

I haven't seen anything other than those but when compard to other "similar" sedans like the Maserati, this should be nicer. With Audi introducing the RS4 at a ridiculous amount of money, this may be a good seller.

POST 11Original post

Great, another non-sports car for the sports car company that know longer races. Get your orders in for the third model year if quality of the first two+ of the Cayenne are any indication.

POST 13Original post

Hey, I 'd love if they were still racing (and hated the thought of the Cayenne at first), but most of us do need a good sedan and as much as I loved my previous generation 5 series sport sedan with 6speed, I'd love one of those. I need a strong SUV to pull my trailer (with either a spec Miata or GT3 inside) and the Cayenne fit the bill perfectly. Guess if it keeps them independent...

POST 14Original post

My thoughts exactly I love my 911 and boxster, but given a choice between a 450 BHP V8 4-door Porsche and a V10 M5 with F1-style launch control obviously i would not even consider the Merc... THAT would be a very tough decision to make - especially as the porsche seems to have a much higher indicated price

POST 15Original post

I know people say Porsche is independent - but aren;t they actually owned by VAW (volks/audi?)

POST 20Original post

I believe the same ime when Porsche stopped using VW Finance for their leases/financing. It was a few years ago but I don't remember exactly when. I'm sure that it's public knowledge somewhere easily accessible.

POST 21Original post

Personally I believe it is the single bigest mistake PAG could make. I understood the Cayenne somewhat, and I like the Cayenne. I understand the thinking behind the Boxster Coupe, NOT the Cayman...terrible name. But a 4 door 911 just removed any exclusivity we had in our cars. My opinion.

POST 22Original post

4 door 911? No. It's more closely related to a Cayenne than anything else. Anyway, who cares? The whole image is being diluted more and more every year.

POST 23Original post

Yes Alon, I think it looks more 911 or even Carrera GT than it does Cayenne. But your right...who cares, they are absolutely diluting the image.

POST 24Original post

God bless that great profit and marketing machine that Porsche is becoming (flame suit on).

POST 25Original post

I think it will be a success. I'm going to guess that many of us have more than 2 cars. Having the option of a Porsche sedan, I'd probably get one. Hope it will be in the Cayenne price range. Right now, Porsche isn't making many track cars, and they don't provide warranty coverage to the ones that are tracked. So, they might as well sell street cars. Let's see, tt for going to work, new sedan for going to dinner or family road trip, and ZO6 for the track. Just the opposite of the 1980's relationship between GM and Porsche. AS

POST 26Original post

I believe they are independent, but have had "agreements" with VW and Audi over the years, and the Porsche and Piech (sp?) families are related by marriage. Re the car. I believe that it would be impossible for Porsche to come up with a design that would reflect the "Porsche" look yet different. My only concern for folks who want a true 4 passenger that the rear seats will be "928 like" Of course, with a front engine...... who knows.

POST 27Original post

You know...if you loose the rear doors I think you'd be looking at a 911 stretch! I sort of like it...

POST 30Original post

Dr. Porsche STARTED VW first. He then wanted to make sports cars under his own name, so his sister took over running VW. They were seperated at that point i believe. Not positive though. Miss Porsche then married into the Piech family so you got VW/AUDI as they combined their business into one family establishment. Porsche is the brother-inlaw you Audi if you wish, and directly related to VW. So its one big family that owns both companies. Most of the stock is closely held. With different rated stock with no voting rights I believe being whats usually sold to outsiders. I might be a little off, but im pretty sure. EDIT: HAHA, i also found this digging through my files! It was posted a while back but seems appropriate here!

POST 32Original post

I think it's time to accept that the 993 was the end of the time when porsche sold out. Just like how bands sell out to MTV in order to survive, porsche has done the same with the carerra. can't blame them, (but they need to get their act together when it comes to customer service, that's for sure..) in order to survive these days in big business, one must deal with the reality that times are changing... and the days of porsche carerra loyalists is a bygone era, all in the name of corporate profit and greed... my opinion of course, but i haven't found any evidence to disagree with this statement... just enjoy your porsche and drive it like ya stole it.. just don't expect porsche the company to be held in the same regard it once was.. yes it sold out.. just deal with it.. just like how i dealt with my issues with my p-car and i'm now loving it.. :>

POST 33Original post

I have to say, if I thought I could drive a 360 Modena everyday like I do my c4s, I might go over to the dark side. However, that's not a reality and my c4s cab is still a wonderful car so it's Porsche for me. I would also like to add that the 4 door isn't terrible looking and if they put 500 horses under the hood it could be an M5 killer.

POST 34Original post

the porsche sedan photoshop chop job looks like various parts from a 997, 986, mercedes CLS and carerra gt chop job.. maybe a little bit of maserati in there as well.. good job on it none the less.. the rear roof line pretty much gives it all away as being a total and complete photoshop chop shop job.. it's the exact rear end hatch of a 997..

POST 35Original post

Globalization is turning us into a World of Mutts.

POST 36Original post

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't really see what the problem is. They are not "selling out" just because they have the Cayenne, and plan on a 4 door sedan or even a minivan. What I see is Porsche expanding their market, while still keeping the 911 line as the "soul" of the company. They still make the GT3 RS and club sport, they just can't sell it to us here in the good 'ol US of A due to all the regs that prohibit the sale of those cars as street cars. A Porsche is still a Porsche. If it's an SUV, it's a performance SUV you could take to the track. Same thing with the 4 door-to-be. I'm sure it will not only outrun other 4 door performance sedans, it will probably outlast them. Maybe I'm just a dyed-in-the-wool Porschephile and can't see it. And, if they keep doing what they are doing, I'll have a stable of Porsche's with one specific Porsche for every need. I already have a 4+4 coupe, will have an open top roadster, considering an all season SUV, and can have a "scare the in-laws in the back seat" 4 door sedan!! Life would be good indeed!

POST 37Original post

Don't they have to be a profit center. Think about it. No profit no company no parts our cars break OMG--I'm back in a minivan

POST 38Original post

well ford has the ford gt, i don't see people lining up to buy ford escorts... dodge has the viper.. anyone lined up to buy a neon? :> every line has a flagship model.. and while the future of porsche will most likely still have the "carerra" in all it's various forms, whether GT, cup, gt3, etc.. for it's flagship model... the future.. i can see kids saying. when i grow up.. i dream of having a porsche.. everyone will ask them.. which one? the minivan, the suv, or the the truck? <g>

POST 39Original post

Not a bad thing, IMHO. In polite gatherings (as opposed to PCA gatherings that are usually rowdy and a lot of fun), when I answer "Carrera" in response to the question about what car I have, I usually get a blank look. "911" evokes a quizzical eyebrow. "Porsche" finally brings a smile of comprehension, and you can still bet more than even money they are now thinking I have a Boxster.

POST 40Original post

If Ferrari can make a station wagon, then it's okay for Porsche to make a 4 door.

POST 41Original post

I think the experience of owning a Ford GT would not be undermined by the existence of the Focus, the Taurus, and Escort and all that other rolling junk. It's a certain kind of vehicle in it's own right. The RMS issues on the GT might be annoying tho...

POST 42Original post

Didnt Ferrari make a second one as well? I remember seeing an article about the stationwagon 456 or whatever. I think it actually looks good and could be a seller if it was directed towards a market and priced a lot lower. Ide drive it!

POST 43Original post

Do you really think they will launch the Cayman and this 4 door thing so close to each other. Porsche rarely and as far as I remember, never launched two models within 4 years time. This 4 door thing however looks good if it's real. Ciao, Johannes E.

POST 44Original post

the Cayman is more of a marketing spin on a Boxster coupe so they won't annoy 911 owners as much for building a car so close in spec to a 911, and can therefore ju$tify a higher entry point.

POST 45Original post

Mr. C4. The word on the 4 door Pana... is that it will launch in 2009. So there will be a gap of 2 years, maybe more with it and the Cayman.

POST 46 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Expect new launches about every 6 months going forward.

POST 47Original post

Another spy shot! Not sure about their color choice...

POST 48Original post

Actually, looks like Porsche did develop a minivan in the late 90's http://personal.inet.fi/surf/porsche..._plan/varrera/ Fugly though.

POST 49Original post

thank god they sold that design to dodge instead of going forward with it..

POST 50Original post

I kinda liked the pic with the suicide doors. At least it has a different look.

POST 51Original post

they made quite a few shooting brake 456s for the sultan of brunei

POST 52Original post

For you news junkies here's more info on this thingy from Autoweek. http://autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101990 From a psychological perspective (not that I'm a shrink or mind reader), but by including the suicide door concept, isn't Porsche sending a subconscious message about suicide, i.e. commiting suicide of the marque's mystique (once again)? Just a thought

POST 53Original post

I don't think so Fast40, I was thinking more of individuality and easier access to the rear seat. I'm old enough to have ridden in some and it is a lot easier to get in and out of the back seat. But then again that's logic and perhaps Porsche doesn't always think of that. Oh well, we'll find out soon enough.
