Can I use Duplicolor Engine Enamel on top of the paint?

Or do you think it's possible to put one coat of Krylon Fusion in whatever blue they have, & then on top of that use the factory matched spray paint??

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to paint my rear center console & if it turn's out looking really good, then maybe I'll end up doing the front center console, seat hooks, etc. Anyway, point is my exterior is Cobalt Blue Metallic, & interior is grey. My dilemma is wether I should keep it substle & paint it alumalook which will flow nicely with the grey interior & look very modern, or if I should go for a more agressive, sporty look & paint it blue to match with my exterior/contrast with the interior. Help please! If anyone has pictures of a car with something like that done to it, I'd really appreciate it, thanks!
This is my car that I'm going to be doing the work on:
I would do it in the exterior color. I have been thinking about painting mine too and it will be in the exterior color if I do.
Great looking car BTW, I love that color
+2 for exterior/cobalt. I love my interior in SY only a small portion of it - belts, back of the seat and I think it's officially termed the "rear center armrest" - basically from the shifter back.
Be very careful with the material....it's a bit trickier than you think.
But I'd go with Cobalt. We do this every day, and 99% of them are body color, though we do quite a bit of alumalook for some cars.
That is A LOT of grey in there... I am more conservative and would go with black to help bring what black parts you have into view. I think 2 colors is enough... black and grey. Second would be the silver/aluminum look.
I think the pictures with the blue are hot looking, I couldn't go that "wild"
1. black and grey
2. Aluminum and grey
<voicing the conservative opinion>
Lets us know what you decide and post pics when done

Yes sir.
Wait, what?? When you buy a P-Car with the extra $$$ option paint color, it comes with the center console painted the same as the exterior? I've never heard of that.
Thanks TMAC, kind of funny I originally didn't like it so much (as I'm more into the black on black on black on black stealth/evil/agressive look, lol). But everyone compliments me on the color & it's growing on me, haha.
Ya, thanks Salayc! Your thread on this was my inspiration to try doing this on my own. It seemed to work well for you, so I'm basically going by your instructions.
You know what, I've never even thought to ask, but they offer them on a site I found:
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint.asp
It says they carry every factory color & match to samples too. I'm going to give them a try.
Daaamn, that looks pretty sweet. Good job, now I'm more excited to do mine!
Sounds sweet, any pics??
Yes, so I've heard. But if I fail on my project (knock on wood), I'll send my parts to you when I get my next car. I figure I'll only keep this car for about 2 or 3 years (until the economy gets better) & then upgrade to a used 997 Turbo or whatever is in my budget. So I don't want to spend a lot of cash & end up pulling out my hair on resale. Anyway, thanks for the pic. I just couldn't imagine a grey interior with blue center console since I'd never seen one before & it's a big contrast. But with that pic, all I gotta say is wooow! It looks amazing, I'm definetely going that route.
Ya, I keep hearing he does good work, & I agree, at least from the pics I've seen. That looks really sharp!
Sure will do. Thanks for all the tips dude. By the way, I found a site that carries my factory color in spray paint, but it's regular spray paint:
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/spr...t_matched.aspx
What should I do, put a plastic primer first & then the spray paint? Or do you think it's possible to put one coat of Krylon Fusion in whatever blue they have, & then on top of that use the factory matched spray paint??
Just letting you know I decided on the blue, & I'll definetely post pics as soon as I finish.
yes...you can get the painted console from the factory as an extra option. I think they ONLY paint it the same color as the exterior, so your move to paint it blue is a solid move.

Thank you for posting this, I have a silver car but with blue interior. I wanted to see this in a picture to decide how it would look. I like it!
I would trade with you because I have silver with black wheels but I am partial to my coupe
I thought I'd post a pic of my work in progress. So far I've been very pleased with the results. I plan to do the door speaker grilles in the next couple of weeks.
Cobalt is such an awesome color I'd switch my entire interior to it.
My interior looked like a beige-mustardy hell so I did upper & lower consoles, seat hooks & bat wing in Lapis and the hazard & ignition surrounds in silver. Much. Much. Nicer.
I use base coat/clear coat paint with a flex agent/adhesion promotor. My first project was to paint the front and rear bumbers. It's held up perfectly so far, not a scratch or chip yet.
Hey guys, I obviously can't use the Krylon Fusion spray paint like Salayc did since I need a special color, so I'm about to order the color matched spray paint I need, they have it here:
http://automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint_matched.aspx
But I have a question, this paint is made for exterior, so what should I use on the plastic first so it'll stick? Is it possible to just use a regular blue Krylon Fusion & then on top of that spray the color matched spray? Or is it best to use a plastic primer? I called & they told me that their paint sticks best to their plastic primer (but of course they want to sell their product, lol). This is the primer they sell:
http://automotivetouchup.com/spray-p...-promoter.aspx
I've never done this kind of work before since this is the first car I've had worth the trouble of doing it, so all the help & tips I could get would be much appreciated as I want to order the stuff already & get started on this project ASAP, I'm anxious to see how it turns out!!! Thanks.
fwiw - I just received my center console from Eric, painted body color - it looks superb! Beyond what were already high expectations.
The install was not bad at all - so if you regret the color you pick, it's not the end of the world to re-do it. Good luck.
OK so I read this a long time ago and with the Mustard Hell picture I didnt study too close as mine is also stock and I didnt look at it as I was trying to look at the painted picture...
Then I looked and thought, "mine doesnt have THAT much mustard does it?" and sure enough mine doesnt. I took a coulpe shots....
So I think its stock, but NOT body color, more like a sandblasted plastic look with silver freckles embedded in it??? So what is it?? I like it !!

Here's what your grey interior would look like with the alumalook...
Note that I have alternating carpet color instead of the matching grey carpets. That helps to increase the contrast, so your results with alumalook would be even more subtle than this. Good luck.
Anyone with a guards red 996 or Boxster want a matching center console? I was browsing through eBay & found this one really cheap, thought someone here might appreciate it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...=p4506.c0.m245
No affiliation by the way.
So I haven't bought the stuff to paint my center console yet, because I wanted to get done with my current project FIRST(painting calipers red, & rotor hats/disc edge matte black) before I started buying things for the next project.
Well I just finished last night, so time to move on & start with my center console now... Can I use Duplicolor Engine Enamel on top of the paint? Or should I just buy regular clear coat spray? I'm buying all the stuff off of this site that color matches spray paints:
http://automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint.asp
Would I be safer if I just bought THEIR plastic primer, their spray paint, & their clear coat? If you guys know of better products that I can use, let me know, thanks.
So I just got all the stuff in... Now, can anyone tell me how to remove my center console? Also how to remove all the other plastic bits which I might paint later on. Thanks!
