Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone, Looking at purchasing my first 911 after 14 years of dreaming. I have found a car that I like and I have started the process. I have hit a little snag ... a line item on the Carproof report indicates that it has been in an accident and had an insurance quote of $2900 US for a front bumper impact. It is a 2004 C2 Anniversary edition that was came off a 4 year lease in California. Then it was bought from an Auction and transferred up here to Canada. The second owner (in Canada) says he did not know about the accident ... CarFax shows up clean. CarProof shows it. Aside from this car looks pristine and the bumper problem appears to have been fixed. I am of course going to be doing a PPI and will ask for their opinion. The seller seems very open about the car and open to questions and ppi. Should I pass and keep looking? I plan on keeping the car for the long term but don't want to be stuck with potentially hidden problems. Thanks for any advice! Chris

POST 2Original post

I would certainly have the PPI done and see what they say. The only other advice is that there are a LOT of 996's out there so finding the perfect one may not be that difficult. Rob

I don't know what kind of accident does $2900, but it can't be a bad one. $2900 worth of damage is like a new headlight and some touch-up paint. Just on the repair cost, I would say this car has no problems other than non-original paint. MAYBE a new bumper, but I doubt you could get a new one with paint for $3K. Tell the PPI folks what you found, and have them pay close attention to the front end. If the PPI comes back clean, no worries. If there is anything odd, just walk away. There are a lot of nice cars out there. -td

POST 4Original post

As mentioned, a thorough PPI should disclose any major repair damage that may have occurred. It may have been a minor accident that has no bearing on this car other than indicating a prior accident , GL.

POST 5Original post

I would use what you found as a bargaining chip... the price should be really good compared to other 40th car, the 40th is prob the best performance NB 996 Porsche ever made. Drive the car and if you're happy pay lesser than market price...

POST 6Original post

My advise is look really close at it and if your heart yes OH MY GAWD - I LOVE THIS CAR - and all the PPI things come out cool, BUY IT... even if it has has some piddly $3k worth of work done (aka a repainted bumper and a headlight that was cracked) Good luck and post pics when you get it E

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks folks! That was where my head was at as well. I am going down for the PPI on Monday. Just have to make sure emotion doesn't cloud my judgement!! The car has full service records, clean carproof (aside from the accident) and the seller sounds to be an enthusiast. Hopefully I will be posting pics soon!

POST 8Original post

Good Luck, is it your 1st? might want to warn you of the endless trips to the garage to "admire" it between driving trips. Also start clearing off some shelf space for "products" to keep err all spic and span!! E

POST 9Original post

Just curious, what's the asking price? I'll probably put my 40th anniversary on the market soon.

LOL. Already thinking about making the wife park in the driveway so I can put a lazyboy recliner in her spot to just stare at the new car! Somehow I don't think that will fly ... actually she just might make me move into the garage if I try that!

I saw one for 41K. I know nothing about the 40th though. http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/ctd/828536348.html
