Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Are we all talking about TT' here?....and I know that if you're cruising along on the freeway at say 70 and you reset your onboard computer to start as your'e tooling along up to speed, you can get some pretty high numbers....but I still say I just don't believe that a 996TT can get 28 mpg over a sustained run that includes some inclines...not just flat.
Run about 4-5 mph high...and there's never been a thread

I know that the speedometers on these cars run about 4-5 mph high...and there's never been a thread that I've read that shows me any calibration stats for the onboard computer....and since Porsche fudged on the MPH....they could do the same on the MPG.

However, I did use the AC the whole time, and it is a C4.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can someone best my 28.3 mpg for 52.1 miles? Most of it was at around 73mph during the drive from Raleigh-Durham Airport to Greensboro, NC. It should be beaten rather easily.
Photo Proof needed.
Is that downhill in neutral???? haha....I average about 16 around town...sometimes a bit less. On highway, I've seen about 25 or 26 on flat roads about 70 mph. You've done well!!
J
That's really quite easy to accomplish. I've had 28.8mpg on mine pretty often.
Especially when you just reset it to zero, and start cruising on the highway, you'll easily get a much higher number.
However, I refuse to believe the onboard computer, my own manual calculations from refilling intervals makes more sense, at 24-25mpg.
When I bought the car, I drove it from Detroit to NYC and got 27 on that trip. But I was pretty nervous so I didn't speed or play around.
I do mostly city driving and get in the high teens. But I'll be driving to CT next week - I'll take you up on your challange!
My "other" car is a Suburban, so the P-car gets like 50 "comparative" mpg easy in my book.. that count?
actually I dont want to know or even check the p-car I am so damn happy comparatively speaking so I opt to put the $8.59/gal 101 octane trick racing fuel in to help keep the two on the same field price wise...
Holy Cow!! There is NO way that sh*t is worth that kind of money!!! TAKE IT BACK!! OH sorry
~32 MPG!!!!
Going downhill from Reno to San Francisco occasionally drafting the big rig at a 70 mile clip with minimal traffic.
24-26mpg with normal light foot driving otherwise.
Trip of 4,000 miles to Vegas and Tempe. Average speed overall was 82 mph. Normal cruise speed of 91 mph. Got as high as 27.8 mpg during one 370 mile stretch. Lowest was 23.5 going from Denver to Grand Junction. (What a ****ty drive that is) Average for the entire 4,000 miles was a little more than 25.6 mpg. This is the same, if not slightly better than previous trip BEFORE I installed the Supercharger. Believe it or not, my highest avarege was on 90 octane gas.
This was actually calculated mileage.
I've hit the 28.xx mark heading to Myrtle Beach this year.
Daily city is 18.xx top open and 19.xx top closed
I calculate my mpg using the difference of the miles driven per tank and gallons refilled.
10.2 MPG on my commute.
I think I could be under 10 if there wasn't a portion of freeway (I never exceed a certain speed)
I could never get more than 27 MPG on hiways
Sharkster: What TT is getting "28ish". I've never heard of one getting close to 28. In my old 99 996 I saw pretty decent mileage...but a TT? If so, what setup is it using? Are you talking about the 996TT? Surely you jest. I tried once just to see what I could get and babied the thing right after a fillup...and under ideal conditions....flat freeway for 50 miles on a 78 degree day at 70 mpg on cruise...25.3 mpg was it. ANY deviation from letting it cruise would see a drop of .1 or so in mpg.
From a road trip from San Jose to Dayton Ohio and back. 29.0 mpg average. The high point (before the Sierra) was 29.7 mpg
5147 miles at an average of 69 mph. (but in reality many of those miles at 85+)
These cars are very economical at speed. I think it is because of the aerodynamics.
Hey Chuck, remember my TT is a "lil" different. Completely different fuel system, injectors, MAF (Hitachi), tuning etc... so it's nowhere close to stock. If I cruise like I did on the 5 back from Newport Beach to San Jo it really does get 28-ish (at 70 in cruise). Amazing...
Now if I hit the gas... I can watch the needle go....
Alex: Oh yeah....I forgot....you've got James there to make your setup "a little different". Can I borrow him for a week or so? I've heard that after a tune, some of the folks actually get better mileage after the DME has been remapped....havne't tried to check it since I got the UMW tune.
Some of the avatars don't show TT's...but rather 996's. Just running through a town and stopping at a couple lights will drop your mpg numbers. I'd maybe go for 25 or 26....but in truth, I have some reservations about getting 28-30....unless it was like the fellow who was coming down off the hill from Lake Tahoe......Yeah I know....Oh ye of little faith!! I know that the speedometers on these cars run about 4-5 mph high...and there's never been a thread that I've read that shows me any calibration stats for the onboard computer....and since Porsche fudged on the MPH....they could do the same on the MPG. Marketing strategies!! Or maybe Porsche threw in some shills during this time of high gas prices to extol the virtues of their gas efficient cars!! (jes' kidding guys)
I just got back from a 160 mile trip. I reset the odometer, MPG and average MPH.
The trip was about 2/3 highway and 1/3 city streets (
see route
).
I did use a few "high MPG" techniques - like not speed too much, take it out of gear going down hills and gentle acceleration.
However, I did use the AC the whole time, and it is a C4.
On my way to New Canaan, before I got off of 684, I did have it up to 34 MPG - but that was mostly highway. Driving around New Canaan brought it down to 28 - and driving back brought it back up to 30.4, finally settling on 30.2 by the time I got home.
And, just so you don't think I'm a total *****, I usually get 19 MPG.
It was much more to "see if I could do it"...
I was quite entertained listening to Kurt Vonnegut's latest book on CD!
But don't worry - I won't be making a habit of it.
