Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had an 02 C4 Cab/Tip for 2 1/2 years, bought new For Cape Cod. Used to either drive it, or haul it back and forth to Florida (see link on signature). I also bought a 91 Cab for Florida so we wouldn't have to haul back and forth. The 964 has 29K original miles; the 996 has 16K. I'm so enamored with the 964 Cab (see link on signature) that I'm seriously thinking of selling the 996 Cab and getting a 98 993 Cab/Tip I'm not a 0-60/1/4mile/top speed/hp fanatic, but the look and feel of the 964 is something I never realized how much I missed. (I say 993 'cause I feel it is an upgraded 964) My question is not the "what should I do thing", but rather an analysis of reliability of a low mileage 98 993 v the one owner (me) reliability of the 996 for any of you who have had both. After doing my thing with the 964, the 996 seems like I'm in a totally different vehicle...whichobviously it is. I know of the wiring harness issues with the 993. Are there any other major ones? TIA Don

POST 2Original post

get a 993 and keep it in California Sorry, couldn't resist...

POST 3Original post

Hi Don, I currently own a MY2003 996 cab and a MY1997 993 C4S. I purchased both cars new. I also use to own a MY1995 993 C2 cab and a MY1992 964 C2 cab. The 996 and the 993s have been relatively trouble free; however, the MY1995 993 had a recall to replace the wiring harness. I would stay away from purchasing a MY1995 993 All-in-all, my experience with the 996 and 993 have been good in terms of the reliability. From my standpoint, I would say that they are equally reliable. I hope this helps. Mike

POST 4Original post

Don, if you get rid of Misty, you wil miss her. Remember how you miss your Speedster? I'd keep both cars and have two different driving experiences. Get another house in CA and put a 993 in that garage .

POST 5Original post

Your car has been so uniquely personalized, it's hard to see how you could want to go through that again. I'd recommend you keep the one you have. You might have gotten used to it, but it's still pretty cool. AS

POST 6Original post

I've had all three and I would trade the 964 for the 993 and keep your 996. I agree the 994 is an "upgraded" 964. That 996 is in another league with the cab/tip. Like a Corniche on steroids.

POST 7Original post

evidently youve never driven or ridden in a Corniche.

POST 8Original post

I don't miss my 964 at all after I got the 996. After reading all the posts about the 996 not being a real Porsche etc. I must say that it has all what the 964 had and more.

POST 9Original post

Ive had all 3 and appreciated the unique traits of each. But the thought of a 993 cab for play, guards red please, is a real winner. Unfortunately, I couldnt part with anything from the current stable. That's a lot like asking which kid to give up for adoption, too painful.

POST 10Original post

I sold my 993 because of the CEL/valve guides/ SAI issue, which will affect every 993 eventually. It is the achilles heel of the series. Check on the PCA website tech forum, and Bruce Anderson's column in Excellence.
