Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use my 997 RS (not standard GT3) as a daily driver...

Once for a warranty repair of the diff in my first 996, and then for the car I bought a month ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A friend of mine came over with his '02 GT3 and we swapped cars for a little while.
I'm impressed! A lot of little differences (and one large 80 HP difference) that makes it quite a different car than the 996.
Something to start aspiring to!
I agree. Completely different cars. Its amazing that the different models within the same generation can all drive so differently in a good way. Yet, the cars look relatively the same for someone who doesn't know Porsches.
It could have been on '04 - it's a mkII style car. Only 35k miles, too.
Not only are the power, the sound and the power (did I mention the power?
) noticeably better, but with the higher redline (and maybe different gear ratios?) it seemed like you are
always
in the power band.
I was surprised to feel that the gearbox was "heavier" - I have a short shift kit on the 996, the GT3 had about the same throws, but it took more force, and there was a more positive "clunk" as you entered each gear. Oh, yes, and a
much
heavier clutch - but by the end of the drive, I didn't mind it at all.
The steering felt crisper and more responsive - but that might be because my car is a C4 - or it could be his alignment.
Both cars had the same tires (PS2s).
The GT3's brakes are very large and good - but then, the regular 996 has good brakes, too.
Suspension wise, they were similar - I have the X74. Interestingly, the GT3 felt just as stiff as my car, but the GT3 road a little better - maybe a little different rebound setting?
Oh, and while I think the aero wing doesn't look as cool as the "taco" - it was very cool seeing the wing in the side view mirrors!
I too aspire to a GT3, but alas must struggle through life with a 'lowly mk1 996' for now
But I have been slowly altering mine to be as GT3-like as possible.
I have a blog about the mods here:

Pretty much everything but the engine either has or will be done.

After your short drive in the GT3, could you drive it primarily on the road and not have issues with the 'ride' quality and harshness? Or is it really just a track car that excells on the track ?
Yes. I drive my 996 with the X74 daily - and I have no issues about ride quality or harshness. But, I might be more hardcore than others. I found the GT3, slightly more comfortable (a little less "bouncy") so it's definitely OK in my book!
That's a beautiful car, Rob. How is it in the snow? I think because of that, I'll keep my 996 C4 for a few more years. But I'm sure going to lust for a GT3!!
I just came from the indy shop and they had a 04' GT3 with custom exhaust and no cats (stock motor)
he rev'd it up and OMG !!! it is NOT MY CAR - but I wish it was !! all I could say is HOLY ****!!! over and over!!!!!!
wtg Van
soooooo
is the guitar boat thingy yours???
hahahah
j/k
I just said to the guys ate the shop....an 04 in good condition is what ??? $60... and they agreed
let me see.... carry the one, devide by 6, multiple by 2 squared pi R - ****.... still WAY out of range for me
the X74 suspension and GT3 suspension are very stiff.... *not* recommended for daily usage unless you are ultra hard core... there was a discussion here about this very topic and that is what they concluded...
I have somebody looking at my car, I kind of want to wait to sell it but I'll be/am in the market for a yellow GT3, though I'm hoping to stay somewhat below $60k, that car looks like a good example however.
Anyway, I have full GT3 suspension on my C2, that I routinely drive across the country and track -it's actually my only car. I find it to be a great compromise, I'm sure it's too stiff for some. I'm currently 500+ miles away from home, and intend to put it on track for 3 days before I get back.
I didn't realize it at the time, but I was up at Pocono a few weeks ago and got to take several laps (in the passenger seat) of the 997 GT3 S (modified by Farnbacher-Loles) that was featured in Excellence in June of this year. All I can say is unbelievable.
I test drove an '04 GT3 for about 20 minutes on the freeway and surface streets. My opinion was the ride quality was not an issue for me (I have PSS9s on my car now set to firm). The heavier clutch, however, would definitely be a hassle in stop-and-go traffic.
Sorry but disagree.... I use my 997 RS (not standard GT3) as a daily driver... its fine. But depends how rough the roads around work and home are I guess. I always take the long way home...
I don't know about the 996 GT3, but the 997 GT3 has an awesome 2nd gear power band. You gotta love Porsche engineers... they know where most of the fun happens!
Your C4 is much heavier, and on top of that, has a higher percentage of its weight over the front wheels. They have to absorb a heck of a lot more energy when turning
The difference on the street may be subtle, but after a few hot laps, the GT3 would start to cook those PS2's and would not brake (or turn) as well as your C4
In the meantime, your C4 is still superior to a GT3 in at least one scenario: uphill hairpin in the rain
Rob is in Bellingham Ahmet. He a sales guy at Roger Jobs Porsche. I'll vouch for the guy anyway. He turned me on the car car which I eventually bought from their used car department.
I've had a couple of dealing with the guys at Roger Jobs now. Once for a warranty repair of the diff in my first 996, and then for the car I bought a month ago.
Way way way better to deal with than our local Vancouver Porsche dealership.
