Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
The instructions I had were pretty specific not to allow their paint to sit for long (I think they said it would dissolve the clear coat, but I don't have the instructions anymore to check)
Leading evidence: 'Use didn't charge me' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check )' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've used Langka and also the "old school" method i.e.

For the Lanka system I have used the typical touchup paint (i just bought it from the dealer).

I do however wnat to 'fill' one little scratch a liitle better tho.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

tried a little repair on my roof. sorry about the picture quality, i only had my camera phone on me.

you can still see the damage from certain angles, but it seems to look a lot better.
it's not obvious from the image, but my car is arctic silver.
Seems to be pretty good. I've been thinking about trying it for a temporary fix for road rash on my front bumper. I'll get it professionally re-sprayed eventually...
...and it works pretty good, real good really. I have a couple small, pretty deep little scratches and the Dr Color Ship did great. I do however wnat to 'fill' one little scratch a liitle better tho. This kit works way better than the standard little paint brush kits. I thought it was worth the cash. As a matter of fact, I have to look more than 2 or 3 times to find where the marks originally were
.
Thanks for the reviews. I might try Dr. ColorChip again. My first time, I was doing just a little spot, and I waited too long to smudge the paint, and I think I took off a little clearcoat. It was a very small spot, so no big deal, but it really scared me.
For chips, I did have good results with Lanka. Also, it is very forgiving as far as application.
from what i've read:
1. i should probably use the dr colorchip paint and blob it on to my deeper chips. then let it dry for a couple of hours.
2. then use langka blob remover to level the repair with the rest of the paint.
3. let dry/cure for a few days.
As you can tell, I am not an expert at this, but before you try this I wanted to make a quick comment. My understanding is that Dr. Colorchip paint is not the same formulation as typical touchup paint. The instructions I had were pretty specific not to allow their paint to sit for long (I think they said it would dissolve the clear coat, but I don't have the instructions anymore to check)
For the Lanka system I have used the typical touchup paint (i just bought it from the dealer). Letting this sit for 2 to 24 hours (not critical) then using the Lanka system worked great on deaper chips. It has a very nice leveling effect.
PS: Your results were pretty impressive!!
What is Dr Color Chip? From the description it sounds a bit like using Langka with OEM touchup paint. I've used Langka and also the "old school" method i.e. wet sand and rubbing compound.
Has anyone tried it all who can offer a comparison? Are the results better than the alternatives or is it just easier?
I've had fantastic results on my '99 Audi A6 Avant (Volcano Black). I'm a skier, so it sees a lot of road salt/rocks/etc. The front looked like it went through a sand blaster. I used the one for massive chips. It looks a hundred times better, although if you get close you can still see where the chips are. I should get it repainted, but with 168K miles, it's really not worth it.
I bought a kit for my SY 996, but I haven't touched up any of the minor little chips yet.
not sure about video, but the directions on drcolorchip.com are very good.
1. dab
2. smear
3. let dry (2 min. to 2 hours)
4. rub with old t-shirt and solution
5. buff with microfiber cloth
repeat if necessary. remember to use on shallow chips only. arctic silver is hard to match. non-metallic colors are easiest repairs.
for my car, i had a shop do touch ups with base and paint before i touched up with dr color chip. this is the recommended method for metallic paints. the shop i used didn't charge me for touch ups.
You can ALWAYS get the Dr Colorchip paint off with the remover or Acetone. Neither will affect your OEM clearcoat. I don't recall anthing about leaving it on too long and affecting the OEM clearcoat. I've had it on for over an hour and it wiped right off.
I've tried Dr. Color Chip, Langka, and the old school method. The first two are easier than the old school method, but I get better results with the old school approach. I think Color Chip is good for lots of tiny chips or "rash". It cover lots of area quickly and blends it in. Langka is a little better for big chips, but honestly I never get a good match to the rest of the paint. This may be because I have a metallic color and the magic goo they give you seems to dull the appearance of the touch up.
