Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I chopped the curved piece from each side, used my dads plasma cutter to make a hole, then welded the mild steel to the stainless steel.
Leading evidence: 'Use dads plasma cutter' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set i understand they do great work' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Although I've never seen or heard a set, I understand they do great work.

Why are you guys so dead set on throwing your money away?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just read Michael Gibney's sad tale of droning mufflers.
I too purchased FabSpeed MaxFlo mufflers and couldn't stand the drone. I sold them for the cost of shipping after making sure the buyer understood that they droned at 3000 RPM.
I just threw away the B&B mufflers on a previous Porsche since I couldn't justify subjecting anyone else to the drone and lowered performance.
So I know of 2 BAD muffler manufacturers that we should all avoid:
Billy Boat
FabSpeed
I also know of 3 GOOD mufflers for anyone interested:
RSR (converts OEM mufflers, great sound and performance)
OEM PSE (everyone loves this option)
Tubi (too loud for some, but perfect for me)
Perhaps there are more GOOD/BAD muffler suggestions?
RSR (Robin Sun Racing) is also p-car.com.
He does quality work and stands behind it. I've had him modify 3 of my Porsches (993 C4S, 993TT and Supercharged 996 C4S). He's the best!
If you want to keep your stock mufflers (no droning of fittting problems) AND improve sound and performance, Robin will make your existing mufflers sing!
RSR cuts open your stock muflers and modifies the interior. They require you to send in a good stock set as a core exchange, or charge you if you don't have an exchange. Although I've never seen or heard a set, I understand they do great work. The "hack job" you refer to is the Mark I or Mark II mod...and it's actually a very nice sound. I describe it as as close to PSE as you can get without buying the real thing (for $1500), I had a set of the modded ones on my 996 C2 a while back and really liked them. There was no drone and the conversion thru FisterD is written up in a number of forums to include pictures and kudos from many who have bought them. Do a search in the 996 forum for "Modding the 3.6L mufflers for a MKII design". That'll give you pictures and a rather extensive discussion on the pros/cons. There are also numerous other posts on the subject.

Just hack them!
Why are you guys so dead set on throwing your money away? Why would you even think about spending two grand when you can get awesome sound out of the hack for two hundred? I just don't get it.
.....or free if you have a welder of any kind and an old brush guard laying around with the proper diameter pipe?
I chopped the curved piece from each side, used my dads plasma cutter to make a hole, then welded the mild steel to the stainless steel.
If you dont mind future surface rust, you can weld mild steel to stainless steel with no problems.
I hacked mine with the MKI mod.
I guess the word "hack" is just too offensive for some Porsche folks and is an instant turn-off...perhaps it would be more acceptable if it was referred to as a "sophisticated muffler modification"....or something like that. There seems to be a mindset that if it costs more, it must be better. I had a lot of compliments on the Mark II mod I had done by FisterD. I put the car next to Loren's (RennTech) and listened to his PSE's....and have to admit that the PSEs did sound a little more exotic....but then again, I paid $275 for the whole setup including the welding....and PSEs are $1500. Since I had it done over a year ago, Fister D has improved the design and manufacturing process substantially.
Seems like someone likes to make generalizations..... GOOD/BAD.
There were several folks in the other thread that love their Fabspeeds, but yet you start a new thread stating they are BAD???
A hack is great if you only want to spend $200 for a little more sound....
But -- f you're willing to spend a little more you also save a noticeable 20lbs off the rear bumper, and you're getting a muffler that was designed as a complete system, including better flow and performance, not just some cutting and welding on the heavy stock OEM cans.....
FWIW I love my Tubi. Sound is so addicting that I get terrible MPG because I'm on it all the time.
.
PSE sure sounds sweet, but I thought losing weight off the **** would be of some improvment.
