Carfax showed some damage at one point and the front right quarter has been repainted (blended well) as well as a poorly repaired dinger on the rear right.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I drove a black 02 C2 this weekend in Tarpon Springs, FL. I would love it if you guys checked out the listing and told me what you thought.
The car was a smoker car at one point but is not too strong. Four previous owners. Carfax showed some damage at one point and the front right quarter has been repainted (blended well) as well as a poorly repaired dinger on the rear right.
The listing just dropped from 29,9 to 24,5.
One other thing, on the test drive with a friend, I downshifted from fourth to third around 50ish mph. I then accelerated out to around 5500 rpms and then upshifted. Looking in the rear view (for cops), I noticed a significant cloud of oil smoke behind the car. Couldn't replicate it again. What on earth was it?
Those are all the negatives to the car, the listing will tell the rest of the story.

Looks nice, of course every Porsche looks nice, ha.
Price is reasonable, but why did it release a cloud of smoke??
Could be nothing, or could a sympton of a big problem, but I would move on.
Keep moving. If you really like it though, have it taken to an indy shop for a very thorough inspection and diagnosis of what you saw.
Still though, I'd keep moving, a car with a mechanical fault while being sold will have other issues.
its at a "pop lot" not dealer right?
so most likely an auction car.
The color is rare and that could make it harder to sell, though if you like it, great.
most likely there is no warranty - and they offer some crap one for a lot of money...
that said, if you like it, get a PPI - and see what comes back. My car is a 4 owner before me and 2 reports on carfax for accidents. (maybe 3 now after last week) and had 99k miles.... I have loved it every second of every day fro well over a year.... trouble free (for the most part) - its mine and what ever issues it has, I am not going to worry about. Every time I get out I look back and whisper "Damn! That was ANOTHER awesome drive, Thank you" (some people think I am strange, others know it)
The car was very straight. All the lines were tight and correct. Drove very well, I just didn't understand the smoke. I really would love to know what a PPI would reveal but I don't really want to make any more committments to the car until it gets a thorough look.
24,500 seems right at first glance, but the more I think it the more the price should be closer to 20k with a questionable carfax, smoke, and smoker car.
I wouldn't even look twice at a car that smokes under hard acceleration...these cars are not rare--they're a dime a dozen and there are plenty of good ones out there that don't come with a story...

I was in his office on Saturday but didn't want to talk price. That giant cloud of oil smoke behind the car kinda scared me. Are you doing my homework for me or am I bidding with you now?
The G is nice. Do you know of any independent Porsche mechanics in Tampa? I'm hesitant to take the car to the local dealer (Reeves) as the salesman seems to know a lot of the guys in the shop there. Or is that misplaced?
tbh I don't... The guy seems genuine, but you are looking at a 7 year old car. I feel like the smoke was from it sitting for a while. Probably not smoke but carbon buildup. I know from many cars I have owned if you don't drive them hard sometimes the carbon builds up and once you get on it you will see a puff of white smoke.
The porsche dealer in Sarasota seems reputable, you think he would let you take it there? Plus would be a good test drive down the highway. If he wants it gone, then he will deal.
20grand for the car is what its worth. I mean seriously a 7 year old porsche with accident history... Hows the interior besides being red? Is it clean?
Use your head and not your heart.
The interior is OK. Beautiful until you get up close. The vehicle was owned by a smoker at one point and there are three cigarette burns: once in the seat of the passenger side, one in the boot of the shifter, and another on one or the rear seats. It took 30 minutes of sniffing, but you could smell just a hint of smoke.
The far right air vent is broken and doesn't properly direct air. Everything else seemed to be in working order. There were a few nicks in the red around the switches and parking brake, usual wear for a 7 year old car.
We scoured the car looking for issues. The rear wheels are a ever so slightly chewed on the edges.
The heart has the bank on the phone, the head is scared to death of buying any used sports car with out a full service history.
yah, I would walk... Not 2 months ago there was a 2003 with 22k miles listed at 27,900. Black on black, beautiful car. Someone beat me to it though... Was over in west palm.
Just keep looking
I guess it depends too on the color of the smoke - white, blue, black? Drive it again, cold and warm, maybe have a friend go with you and follow you so that he/she can better see the smoke. If it doesn't happen again, then no worries, it was carbon. If it happens again, when it happens (on acceleration, deacceleration) will tell you if it's rings or valves, or the color will also give you ideas.
Me, personally, I would not buy a smoker car, I can't stand the smell (I'm an ex-smoker). And the accident history would make me run away. Oh, and the red interior would get old quickly. But that's me.
Shop some more, that's my advice. Buy the best car that you can afford.

The more I looked at that car the more I disliked the color. It was hot for a week but after looking at a lot of sharp 996s, it just wore off. I'm moving on. Anyone have an 02-04 C2 with good service history? I could care less about miles if the car is document and kept stock.
