I've since replaced the boot with an aftermarket one that adds a bit of color to the cabin, but the surround trim piece you've made, and the one in my parts bin (Etsy purchase), don't appear to fit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys I recently painted my Rear center console. next step is to add a nice Horse shoe trim to the shift **** leather boot. there are not too many options in the market... I found this one as a 3D printed piece. It needs sanding + primer + arctic silver paint + lacquer (very easy to do) You Tube

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First step was sanding Then I sprayed Primer (2 coats) Then I wait for the advised time to get it dry and sanded it again to obtain a perfect surface. Cleaned it up and ready to spray Arctic Silver Color... To be continued

POST 3Original post

Did all 996s have a boot trim? My car did not when I bought it, see the pic here - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...11-carrera-83/ or below I've since replaced the boot with an aftermarket one that adds a bit of color to the cabin, but the surround trim piece you've made, and the one in my parts bin (Etsy purchase), don't appear to fit. Maybe it would. I did try setting it in place and it wasn't immediately apparent that it would fit. I didn't bother with it, I like the look of the boot without it. Just curious about spec.

Not 100% but its either part of an interior option or a .2 item. My early build .1 doesnt have it, my .2 did but it also had the aluma look e-brake option.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was a Tequipment option All the 996 Carrera/4 came without it

Indeed this is the real thread I Posted in spanish Soloporsche forum: Hello everyone, As you know, Porsche has offered and continues to offer various shift ***** for the 986 Boxster and 996 models in the Tequipment catalog, including options in Arctic Silver, Wood, Carbon, etc. These come with an integrated leather part matching the interior color, along with a silver embellisher that contrasts with the console where it is inserted, adding a beautiful touch. Apart from being quite expensive and challenging to find in specific colors, aftermarket options are also quite complicated. About 10-12 years ago, Gert from Carnewal used to offer them. He bought a bunch of original parts, disassembled them, and even created a mix with shift ***** from the 997 integrated into the 996. It looked really good, but unfortunately, he no longer has any. In fact, out of every 2 pieces he detached to create a new one, 1 would break and become unusable. I've only found one person offering an alternative solution: he sells the "horseshoe embellisher" separately. I assume he uses 3D printing since the piece looks like it's produced that way. I've purchased it myself. I've tried to replicate it, but two specialized places are asking for a fortune, as due to measurements, etc., it would cost an arm and a leg. The specific piece is this: (needs sanding, priming, silver paint, and lacquer, nothing that can't be done in an hour, very easy)

POST 8Original post

My 99 does not have it, always thought it was a 996.1 vs 996.2 thing but its not. So all the shift boots in cars I have seen with the horseshoe are replacements for boots without the horseshoe originally, or do I have this wrong?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

99,9% of the boots showing the silver trim are Optional Porsche Tequipment stuff What I am sharing is a cheaper way to get it and have a silvered trim contrasting console material with leather boot

I have 2 of these from a Great guy on here making them a couple years ago (still here I think) I got turbo prototype and standard one , Look and work great if you mess up your original or want to enhance your own w/o. Using Mercedes Benz Brilliant Silver paint code will get you close to alumalook finish.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First spray in silver One more and then lacquer

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I drilled the black plastic internal piece (inside the leather boot) 6 holes I drilled the leather boot as well Now just need to add some specific glue for plastics and once It would be perfectly sticked directly to reinstall the shift-****

POST 15Original post

The trim horseshoe only came with the upgraded shifter **** boot. i.e alumalook, carbon fiber shifter, various wood shifter **** colors.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes You could order it to any Porsche Zentrum with the reference number This one in Carbon fiber is nice but 1200$!!! I just wanted to add the arctic silver trim piece

POST 19Original post

Well done! I'm a visual/hands-on learner so your pics 'along the way' help greatly.

POST 20Original post

Where is the best place to buy the silver rings in 2026? thanks

POST 21Original post

I bought a 3D printed one on Etsy, sanded and used Testors Diamond Dust colored paint. It turned out pretty good, better than the original with the bubbled peeling paint.

POST 22Original post

Anyone have the stl file for this? I just got a 3d printer and want to replace mine.

POST 23Original post

I lost a metal clip from mine, I want to 3D print a replacement for those.
