Lastly...It was popular to have dealer installed Aero Kits.

You can get a certificate of authenticity through Porsche that will list all of the factory installed options.

I get bored and check Ebay periodically to see what cars are selling for.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I saw this one and it really struck me, plus I got a great deal, and it has Factory Aero (which I personally love and think is fairly uncommon), is Black, and has aweseome 19" Champion Wheels. Looks like the thing is "tubbed" from the rear (for the old hot rodders out there). I just really liked the look and the owner has been meticulous. Hopefully the pix will show up. Also has some $5000 stereo system, which I don't care much about, but I am sure I will enjoy. I hope the pictures show up.
This is my 2nd 911 (first an 83), so I figure this 99 should be a world of difference from the 83.
Best to all,
Todd
Well, on the stereo, its supposed to be expense stuff; Eclipse, Rockford, etc?? (not my hobby, so I don't really know). Loud music actually annoys me in my old age (of 38 in November - I'm an old soul).
I always wanted a 911 and not a Cayman, etc. because my kid rides in the back when the family gets ice cream. So the seats will always be up so should not really be visible.
But here is a related question - I have read about battery trickle charges for batteries going dead in 911's, and this car has a professional amp and disc changer installed in the bonnet. Is there anything related to Porsche batteries dying out that I should be aware of? This car will probably sit until the weekends.
Thanks
Uhhh...no. Red was right. Those are not champion. Not to take anything away from them as they're still a great looking wheel but they're a 1 piece cast wheel and not a forged multi-piece champion wheel.
There was a special on 6-speed when these were first released for right around $1200 as Red stated.

None the less BEAUTIFUL aero car. You're going to enjoy the heck out of it.

just was thinking about that speaker set up in the rear... make sure it is secure - really secure! You dont need that thing hitting you in the back of the head in the event you find yourself in some sort of emergency situation.
Its amazing how far and fast big heavy items can fly in emergency situations - dont mean to be an alarmest, but I am sure everyone who thinks about it whould agree
How can you guys tell they are not Champions? I assume this means they are Aftermarket. I saw these aftermarket wheels on Ebay for $599 each, plus shipping, without tires. So I would guess all in, with mounting/balancing, new tires, maybe $3500 to $4000 (brand new). But I assume there are cheaper deals out there based on the above comments.
Either way, I like the look of them, and as long as they are straight and true, and stay that way, I'll be happy. I'm actually surprised that the guy I bought them from did not paint the calipers. I am consider yellow, red, or gloss black, but am afraid of overspray.
I also need to get a 2nd key, as I only have one unfortunately. Maybe I'll look for a GT3 motor or turbo motor too, so I don't have to worry about the RMS issue (just kidding).
I studied about every possible wheel on the market this past year trying to pick out a nice set of street wheels in 19' for my 996. Spoke design and shape, lip size, etc varies a little bit on every wheel. That and I specifically nearly bought that exact wheel for my car from a special on another forum. There's nothing wrong with them other than being heavy. I think they're a stunning wheel.
Sold here as the RPK-038 model:
http://www.wheeldynamics.com/Wheels.html
They're distinctive in that they have the 5 small holes between the lug holes and the lug holes are smaller than standard requiring custom lug nuts
IIRC The seller claimed them to be Ruf wheels in his e-bay auction...
Andy
I imagine those small differences relate to patent protection issues.
I saw that RUF comment, but I never really thought they were "RUF", since I googled RUF wheels and did not see this type of Champion wheel design for RUF. I have no doubt if I asked the question, the seller would have told me exactly where he bought them and for how much.
I figured aftermarket would be heavier. I once had a Saab Viggen, and those super light wheels bent on my everytime I hit a pot hole. I ended buying Aftermarket heavier wheels, and never had a problem again (probably lost a fraction of acceleration time, but never noticed).
P.S. How did you know where I found the car? Also, what year is your car? I assume 99-01 as the headlights come down into the bumper.
Mine's a '99 factory aero car as well.
I get bored and check Ebay periodically to see what cars are selling for. I saw that car the other night and it caught my eye and looked particularly nice.
Andy
Nice of you to say. Can you tell if mine is a "Factory" Aero? Seller said he wasn't sure, but that it had the Aero exhaust, so he wouldn't be surprised if so, - and said no rattles/shakes. It is being delivered to me, so I don't have access to the option codes (unless there is some way through the VIN #? to figure this out)?
Only good way to tell is the Option code sticker under the hood will have XAA listed. (It actually looks like XRR the way they print their A's on that sticker) It's usually one of the first ones listed on the sticker under the hood and there should be another one in the owners manual.
You can get a certificate of authenticity through Porsche that will list all of the factory installed options. It's kinda cool to have and great wall art for the office
Other ways to tell. As far as I know the aftermarket rear wings do not have an adjustable center section. The factory one you can adjust to 3 different wing positions. Also on the rear wing the aftermarket ones generally do not have the gourney flap installed. I can see the gourney flap in your pictures so that's a good sign even though it's easy to add...most overlook it when doing the aero kit after the fact.
Also, aftermarket front bumpers and skirts are are generally fiberglass and not poly.
Lastly...It was popular to have dealer installed Aero Kits. All genuine factory parts but no option code sticker. So even if you don't have the XAA code it may still very well be fatory parts.
Andy
Dial 1-800-PORSCHE with the VIN # in hand and they'll tell you what options the car came with.
Never tried it personally. Read it in a previous post somewhere.
Phil
the 1 800 Porsche does work, but you have to be the current owner listed on the car to be told.
That does not necessarily mean the owner on the title, but the last owner reported to Porsche NA. I'll have to wait to get the car and look under the hood or bonnett.
Thanks
