I think we pay $60 a month for full coverage on the 996 as an occasional use vehicle.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I got a quote of for $550 for my 1999 911 one year full coverage (Haggerty). This is based on < 5K miles/year, non primary vehicle & garage kept. Does anyone else have any other suggestions of companies for something like this. Thanks, Todd

POST 2Original post

I do have a recommendation.. I have Traverlers Insurance. $125 a month, comprehensive coverage. Best decision I ever made. About three weeks ago my engine was ruined because of rain water. Travelers installed a new Porsche replacement engine within the week to the tune of 20 grand, not a hiccup about the process. They have been this easy with every claim I've filed. I definately recommend them.

Did you get Traverlers for all of your cars? Or just for the Porsche? That sounds like an OK deal and if they are fuss-free might be something to consider for me.

POST 4Original post

Yes. I have Traveler's coverage on all my vehicles. Not sure how that affects my rates

POST 5Original post

Todd, You didn't mention the coverages or deductables that quote represents....or if Hagerty carries the rest of your vehicles. Most insurance companies will give you a discounted rate for an occasional use vehicle and several other discounts on top of that if you're adding it to your existing policies. Driving record, age, credit, where you live, etc will all play into the equation too. I think we pay $60 a month for full coverage on the 996 as an occasional use vehicle. Thats with $500 limits for comp and collision and 500/500 liability limits. Andy

POST 6Original post

$550 / yr ???? seems cheap - I am with IDS property casualty - offered thru American Express - they have always been cheaper than any other quote I have had. I have 3 cars and 1 house with them - pay $52/mo ($314/ 6 mo) full coverage on the Pcar with $500 deductibles as a part time car oh - I have been with them for about 15 or more years now, only had one claim for a fence that blew down in a wind storm, it was very simple and they were easy to work with. I dont have an agent... but when I needed one, they had a guy come over to the house and take care of everything

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If $628 per year is your premium, $550 shouldn't seem all that cheap - but it is the cheapest I've found so far. My other cars and house, etc., are with my neighbor's company, who is an insurance guy. He told me he could not beat $550 per year. Hagerty is pretty well known with the classic car guys, so I'll probably go with them, unless someone had a recommendation that couldn't be beat. I thought I try and find it for $450 a year or so, but that is only $25 savings per quarter, so I won't waste too much more time on it. I just like to QC check my decisions on Rennlist sometimes. The Hagerty quote, which anyone can do quickly on its website, said $550. Then I called them and they confirmed it. That was for whatever the liability coverages are required in my state of DE and collision. Probably a $500 deductible. I asked for the highest deductible as I can afford to self insure that part. I just generally look for catastrophic insurance. Speaking of catastrophic insurance (not to change the subject), I also requested a quote for a powertrain warranty/insurance for my 99 911 with original engine (67K miles). Just bought it. I saw 3.4 engines on Ebay, rebuilt, for $7k, so I figured why waste $2 or 3k on a warranty. I would just self-insure. But then I figured I'd get a quote just in case it comes in under $2K (if I can even get one for a 1999 - that I can rely on). I think the company I found on the net was AAAWarranty, or something like that. Waiting for an email quote response from them. If anything, when it comes to upgrade my 911, some type of "warranty" would probably help it sell. On the flip side, I am also researching 3.6 conversions. Does not seem all that involved (remap ECU, cam control, throttle body). Don't get me wrong, nothing has happened to my 3.4 yet (touch wood), I just like to reseach this stuff and be prepared.

POST 8Original post

so at Hagerty they quoted me $526 / yr.... thats good BUT as Iwas going thru the motions I remembered (although she doesnt drive it) my wife is covered on my car too....its required on my policy that both drivers be covered on all cars (stupid, but arent all insurance co's sort of "rule happy") still $628 or $526.... money saved is money saved, I will contact them and switching / also asking my old insurance if that is allowed (trust me, I need to ask, and if you have multiple cars insured thru multiple agencies, you should ask too) Thanks for the heads up, I will see where it leads

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cool. I'm not recommending Haggerty. I know nothing about them. But my due diligence so far has brought up no red flags. You are right, if you cancel one coverage, you may lose "multipe vehicle coverage discounts" which may lose you that $100 savings. Nothing in this world is simple!!

Grundy Worldwide collector, $411/yr unlimited pleasure agreed value comp/collision of $26000 (2001 C2). No work/commuting use. Good deal. Hagerty was $526 but 5k/yr only. Good luck. Steve

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Steve. I think Grundy was who I used years ago, but couldn't remember the name. Appreciate it!!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Grundy has a website quote service. They quoted me $338 per year, zero deductible, collision and liability. I will look into this. I put in a value of $22k.
