Does anyone have any experience with the Espirits? I'm getting intrigued. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Lotus is my sons favorite car in the world!!!! (I keep telling him he will learn ) Esprits are classics, many parts come from Toyota and some from GM IIRC - there are several that come to our local GTG's and they always draw lookers !! dont know alot about them though... cool looking!!
For almost the same money, you can get an elise... I imagine it's like the porsche world - buy the newest example you can afford!
Cool looking kid. That Elise is a real go-cart. He (and it) would look great in the high school parking lot some day next to the Subarus and Minis. My brother had a Europa back in the day.
the British Racing Green Extige is really his dream car - we happened by a Jack in the Box one day and I pointed it out, of course we had to stop and look..... The owner was super nice and offered my son a chance to sit in it.... he is 11 now so we have some time. He says his first car is going to be an old VW bug so he can learn to drive stick and fix simple things.... then maybe move up Thanks for the compliment about him!!
As with the Acura NSX, the Lotus Esprit never did it for me. Just not my taste. The Elise and the new Evora are pretty interesting.

A friend of mine has an Elise... I'm not tall (not quite 6') but sort of wide (size 52 suit coat) and it took me ten minutes to get into the damn passenger seat... and about that much to get out of it... Once in it though... and in the hands of a real driver, it was a lot of fun... but for me, a car just to visit once in awhile... Rudy

thanx!
I looked at them also I could barely get out of it!
I don't have any pictures on this computer, but my father has an 02 Esprit. He absolutely loves the car and for the most part it has not given him any problems. It is certainly very exotic and very reasonably priced. It is a very raw car, like a larger elise. Few electronic aides, small cabin, the entire car shakes while idling. Certainly an experience and much less polished and refined than a Porsche, Ferrari, or Lambo.
I owned a 1994 S4s. This model was the pinnacle of the 4cyl Esprit. You had over 300+hp out of a 4cyl 2.2L turbo engine. That is probabley the highest HP/L of any car. These engines are highly stressed. The miles on an Esprit are like dog years, 20K is a high-mileage car. These are basically kit cars, made from parts from Toyota, GM and others. You have absolutely no reliability or any refinement. I still love the look. You get LOT's of attention (wanted and unwanted). Colin Chapman, the man responsible for Lotus had no regard for quality or longevity, they just put together a fantastic looking, nice handling sports car. If it broke down, he would say, that is what they are supposed to do. "affordable" is a VERY relative term when it comes to Lotus Esprit!
