Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Had tranny/diff fluid changed once before around 100,000 to 120,000 miles (or thereabouts) but do not remember where/when and suspect the factory fluid not used, cause afterwards while hot shifting better cold shifting worse.
Leading evidence: 'Replace once' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace i can shift into 2nd even' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

(Couple of months ago had tranny fluid in other car changed, used Royal Purple Syncromax -- came highly recommended -- and even for this stuff paid no where near $40/quart for it.)

Suggestion
But now, after this latest fluid change, I can shift into 2nd even with engine/drivetrain cold.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Need to change trans fluid. My car is a 1999 Cab -996 - 6 speed man. I have heard that GM Syncro fluid is the best for manual trans. I understand it was designed for the German trans that GM was using that had a lot of recalls and they got this lube formulated to combat syncro problems and extend trans life.
What do you guys recommend ???????
I have had great results with Amsoil in Porsche trans's.
Thanks,
Chuck 951
just stick with the factory tranny lube.
if u really want to switch...go with redline of the proper rating (used by a bunch of local indy mechanics and racers with porsche's)
why not use OEM tranny fluid tho? It's properly formulated for the diff as well (tranny/dif share the same fluid).
02 Boxster's 5-speed tranny/diff fluid changed at local Porsche dealership and while I sort of balked when quoted over $40/quart for the stuff I have to say tranny shifting action hasn't been this good since I bought the car. (Car's odometer just rolled past 184,000 miles the other day.)

Had tranny/diff fluid changed once before around 100,000 to 120,000 miles (or thereabouts) but do not remember where/when and suspect the factory fluid not used, cause afterwards while hot shifting better cold shifting worse. Not real worse but I did have to before things nice and hot had to skip shift from 1st to 3rd cause going into 2nd was a bit difficult and I had no desire to force the shift.
But now, after this latest fluid change, I can shift into 2nd even with engine/drivetrain cold. And hot shifts seem even better than before.
Sincerely,
Macster.
On my 964, my indy's been putting in Red Line 75/90W-N with excellent results. This is an SPI GL5 rating. Will this work in the 996? Obviously, it would be easier to use the same gear oil in both and the 964 is known for being harder to shift w/ more slippery 75/90 gear oils.
Anyone run the Red Line 75/90 W-N??
