Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive never had a porsche use oil but my current car has gone through a quart in 2 DE events? Is this with in normal expectations? Car has 13k miles on it and is an x51 motor. Thanks

POST 2Original post

not uncommon. I wouldn't think that you are "burning" synthetic oil. More than likely blowing out the tailpipe. Just keep it topped off and you will be ok.

POST 3Original post

90k miles on my engine and I don't lose any oil between changes at 10k intervals.

POST 5Original post

Mine does. No track time, although I do drive a little aggressively . . . Never a drop on the garage floor. I have searched most sites, and the range varies a huge amount, from none (as in uber's reply) to a qt per 1000 miles. Some claim break-in problems, while others followed the break-in procedure and still burn some oil.

POST 6Original post

Yes, although its difficult to define in terms of quart/mileage, since a lot of my mileage consists of track driving. A quart every two DE weekends is probably about right for me. There have been other threads like this previously and if I recall, a majority of the posters posted their cars burned no oil.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 5250629

First track day was during this last change. I didn't notice any difference in oil level after the track day.

POST 8Original post

Porsche sez that burning 1qt in 600 miles is within spec.... get real Porsche!

POST 9Original post

I put in about a quart every 5K miles (oil changes) and this makes the electronic gauge sit right up above the top line (reman engine).

POST 10Original post

5 or so track days a year and 55k kms on my car. no oil burning between changes (changes ever 5-6k kms)

POST 11Original post

Don't know how aggressive driving you were doing at those DE events, but 2 days running 'er near redline is probably equivalent to a month of typical street driving. Looking at your signature, kind of surprised you've never seen a P-car consume a little oil?

POST 12Original post

No issues here, the oil level is constantly the same

POST 13Original post

I go through a quart every thousand miles or so, less if there are track days involved. 68K now, 29K when I got it in 05. Been the same consumption since I bought it. No other issues, knock on wood.

POST 14Original post

i see no correlation between engine that burns oil to better overall health/performance, engine that does not burn oil to better health/performance it's more of an annoyance to check and refill, but then it's good practice in a sense, too.

POST 15Original post

Thanks--actually nice to hear I am not alone . . .

POST 16Original post

I only notice oil consumption when driving redline at DE/AX. I really do not pay attention to the volume of makeup oil I put in. Think about the vacuum a cylinder generates at high RPMs compared to normal driving in the 2-3k rpm range and some oil is bound to get sucked through the seals/rings.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for everyones feedback. Guess I will stock up!

POST 19Original post

I have to put about a quart in every month or two

POST 20Original post

Mine is in good order. AX in 2nd gear up to redline all day, 3 AXs so far and little oil consumption. No leak and 1 quart every 10K miles between oil change.

POST 21Original post

At 96,000 miles I usually have to add one quart between changes which is a quart every 5,000 miles.

POST 22Original post

My 2000 C2 (43,000 miles) does not burn a drop. Maybe looses one bar, which is totally insignificant, between oil changes.

POST 23Original post

I have 40k km on my 03 C4S. I used to use Mobil 1 0-40, it consumes 1/2 quat for about 90 min track time. This year I use Motul 300V and slightly less consumption, about 1/3 quat for 130min track time. Engine runs fine. I know 2 other C2 (track only) and their engines did not consume any oil at all!!!!

POST 24Original post

114,000 miles, redline every single day, and don't burn any oil at all between changes 5k-7.5k miles. Electronic gauge is always full, and dipstick confirms. I would be really bummed if my car burned a quart every 1000miles - that is just too much. That means the rings aren't seated properly and oil is getting by and burning off. If the rings aren't seated properly, then there is slightly less compression, and blow-by gases are getting into the internals. Not gonna make the engine blow up or anything, but it isn't good for it, either.
