Suggestion

As far as aftermarket warranty goes..........I would recommend talking to the service advisor at the dealership or independant facility and ask them which ones they have seen other customers use and had no issues with paying claims, etc.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

(Searched but did not see the answers i was looking for) Can someone confirm the following warrenty lengths 99-00 2 years 40K miles 01-04 4 years 50K miles for the bumper to bumper warrenty I am looking at few 996's (which i have narrowed down my search to) Also the cost of a Porsche warrenty or a reputable aftermarket warrenty Co. which does biz in Wa & Fl. That some one has experiance with. How did they handle claims, repair work, etc. The car will be a daily driver for 2-3 years then a track rat and i've got enough worries with the 964 cup going back together. The warrenty is just to get it through it's street years. Thx

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so was it only the MY99 that had the short warrenty? I had an 01 boxster with 4/50K thx

POST 4Original post

If I am not mistaken, the first couple of years of the Boxster was 2 years, then everything went to 4/50.

POST 5Original post

Your right.....97-8 Boxster 2 year everything else 4/50

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so all 996's are 4 year/50 then?

POST 7Original post

Porsche does not sell an extended warranty. The only way to get one is to by a Porsche Approved car from a dealer. As far as aftermarket warranty goes..........I would recommend talking to the service advisor at the dealership or independant facility and ask them which ones they have seen other customers use and had no issues with paying claims, etc. I have heard too many horror stories about these warranty companies going out of business.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

somehow I was under the impression that you could also purchase the Porsche approved warrenty for car that come w/o it. If it passes thier checks for miliage, etc. The whole approved warrenty part is considered another bargining point in my book. Anyway thanks for the aftermarket warranty info stuff - I can take my research elsewhere for now. as it does not appear that anyone whom has answered has first hand experiance with a provider company.

POST 9Original post

all 996's came with 4 year warrantiies. Search warranties on this forum and you will find lots of discussions. PPI and history is the only thing you will have t ogo by when getting a used car. Aftermarket warranties in my research are fairly limited and ask a a lot of money. I bought one from a company that was highly rated, and it went into bankrupcy within 6 month. So unless it is from Porsche dealer or company like GE, I would be very worreid.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the company i was looking at was warrentydirect.com - the coverage is pretty high for 100K miles (4K) I will probably go without once the orignal expires - it does not seem like it is worth the insurance. Anyway the car i am looking at comes from a reputable source and will be fully checked out by another dealer as well. I feel comfortable with them since this will be the 4th car i have bought from them. BTW, we have rejected 8 so far for various reasons ranging from service history to the owner attitude about the car.
