Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I would think it easier and likely more cost effective to sell the entire car and replace with an otherwise similar Tiptronic car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
Anyone have any idea of what it would cost to swap out a six speed for a automatic for a 2000 Carrera Cabriolet. I have severe arthritis in my left knee and can no longer push the clutch. Just looking for ballpark costs.
Thanks
$3K-$5K to do a Tipt to Manual swap? Seems very ... optimistic.
A friend spent 3 months doing this swap on his 997 Turbo. It involved...
1. Sourcing the right pedal structure
2. Sourcing and installing the hydraulic lines from the master cylinder
3. Modifying the circuit so it does not involve the PS lines (this may be specific to a Turbo)
4. Machining the gearbox to receive the slave cylinder (on the other side compared to the Tipt)
5. Finding the correct Instrument panel that no longer displays the gear positions
6. Finding the PIWIS tool to reprogram the car from Tipt to Manual, having the right contact with a Porsche dealer to ask for and receive the programming key (specific to each Porsche before the PIWIS can program it), and do the programming.
And performing the engine - gearbox removal and reinstallation.
I find it very difficult to do all this parts and labor for $3-$5k.
To the OP, sell the car and buy a tipt car.
In addition to the obvious (transmission, shifter, linkages & cluster,) the Tip also has its own control unit. Lots of wiring between it and the ECU, dash, etc. You'd have to source both the proper rear main and front main wiring harnesses. While you could move the appropriate wires it'd probably be easier to swap the two harnesses, either way pretty much the whole interior has to come out. You'd also need to add the 3rd radiator up front and add the transmission into the coolant circuit. While I completely understand what you want to do and why, I also think it best to sell it and get a tip car.
Too bad we can't get together and do the swap. I'd love to swap my Tip for a manual because I miss the shift.
Buying a manual 996 has a cost premium that makes the cost of the transmission and parts a push and then I lose an otherwise perfect 996 for something unknown. I just need to buy labor.
It absolutely can be done, auto to manual or manual to auto as the op wants. All the parts r available and the tip to manual has been documented a few times. U just need to dedicate the funds and time to do it.
You should be able to find a willing person to trade cars with you... I'm sure there are many owners with nice /comparable Tip cars who would trade for a manual ....
Ive done the reverse.
Manual to tiptronic is surely doable but I would think that wiring in the transmission control unit would be a bit tedious.
Youd need a tiptronic cluster from the same car you have, everything else would just bolt out/in.
Everything I removed and swapped from my tiptronic is shown here, except the TCU.
