Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hope this has posted I started the thread https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/163777-engine-fails-on-996-why.html and because I presume some of my comments was not allowed to post!, maybe the case of big brother or was it the CIA. Anyway created a new account and am really only back to say how disappointed I am with some of the members with in this forum and the forum concept as a whole.. When my engine in my 996 blew up in London and had to have the car relayed home and to be told that I needed a new engine, I turned this forum for Help, Support, Advice and reassurance, but all I get is a person trying to disgrace me. If the how forums work? Then Im out of here. What is his problems? Are all American 911 owners like him? I hope not. Its like he gets off on trying to be-little people. He goes on about first posting a liar and sending pictures for proof. PICTURES? Does he really want to see my 996, 6 feet in there with its HEART ripped out?. Does he disses all new members like this? Thanks for my induction to Internet forums but NO THANKS. His closing on his last post was my friends. In my eyes hes got no friends. Think about it? With his attitude and being in the CIA!! (A agent affording a 996 strange), come on. Any way as we speak the reconditioned engine direct from Porsche has been put in I am just waiting for final tuning and tweaking and shes mine again. Lost a bit of love for her, because i not seen her for a week and the new engine costs, but im sure by next month when this whole sad affair is a distant memory, then we will both start to become one again. Any advice for running in or bedding the engine would be appreciated only postings from civil members please. Dean

POST 2Original post

this could happend to anyone...no worries mate... there is always a person, which will try to argue with ''you''.... at your job, your vacation..., your home-neighbour... at a restaurant, when trying to park your car... that's life. IGNORE.... you should focus to your prob...as they should have done to their prob........ on the other hand , do not blame them...you do not know them...and probably , you will never find who they, cause e-mail...are inpersonal..(i think this is the correct word-if not forgive me)..... you do not know how is their life, and what kind of probs they are going through these days..... hope everything will go well, with your new engine.... it should in the end.... do not get dissapointed...

POST 3Original post

oh....and next time you get a greek person trying to argue with you... (i am greek) next time a brazilian, next a russian....from my point of view there is no difference... p.s that's because you asked, if all americans are like this guy...

POST 4Original post

Dean-- Judging by your rennlist name I suppose you drive your 996 hard. But how hard must you push the 996 for it to explode or was it just some mechanical failure that led to the explosion? Did you notice any oil leaks or anything different prior to the engine blowing up? Please take it easy on the new engine throughout the break-in period and keep your fingers crossed. Theres no hostility here from any members/users but we've been getting "my engine blew" posts lately from new users so we are a little careful when we see posts like your previous one. And with your reply without answering a simple question, we couldnt take you too seriously. Stay positive, rennlist is a great source for our cars. Hope things work out with the new engine.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Whose the Royal We (not another CIA agent with a 911) and your saying no hostility yet it were certainly was not a warm welcome. Ok I understand that there are un-true postings, but certain members should not be so quick to fire the Gun. Glad I dont live in his state Only fools rush in. Any body with something about them, could see that my posting was quite genuine, as another member tried to explain and dont forget my account was cut off. Reply to simple question? Sorry but because Im new I did not understand the rules, and am now aware that I have to give VIN and plate number before every new posting as proof. No oil leaks, no drop in pressure, just stopped and then on restart engine noise, I am told the bearing collapses and is pure mechanical, even after service, unless you know different. Need better data on running please.

POST 6Original post

Well, I guess people can post what they want and sometimes the subject is something that is not popular. However, there has been appalling behaviour on the part of some regular Rennlisters in these engine related threads. I just wonder why people react like that specifically on this type of thread. I guess you could say 'truth hurts' but surely thats not the whole story?

POST 7Original post

Whos the "Royal We?", I guess thats everyone on the 996 forum/rennlist. Come on, warm welcome? This is a car forum, not going to grandma's house. The simple questions was, What did you pay for your 98 996 w/ 78k miles? I thought that was pretty simple IMHO. But like I said before, try to stay positive. Did your check engine light started to flash on the restart? That should indicate to shut off the engine and call the tow truck immediately.

POST 8Original post

Dean, I am addresing this response to you directly so you know it is not a generalized response. I've re-looked at the thread you started and the responses. IMHO, the rsponses you got were of the variety you would expect when you ask a whole bunch of strangers for an opinion. Some wer helpful, some were disbelieving, some were downright nasty. As we are unknown to you, you are unknown to us, so credibility is not established. I don't know what your experience is in public boards. Unfortunately for you, there are "trolls" who regularly visit boards with no other purpose but to stir up trouble. With your negative first post on a beloved car, a car that is the reason for this board, you WILL be treated with skepticism. Your second and third post with a new thread isn't helping your cause any. And your user name coupled with a post on a blown engine just begs to be shot at. Anyway, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I reiterate my previous statement. You bought a second hand car with high mileage with an unknown prior history. A blown engine can be from a multitude of reasons, such as previous abusive owners or owners who "drive the 996 hard". Maybe too hard to the point of abuse. You have a new engine. Rebuilt. Here in the US, the break-in perod is 2,000 miles for a new 996. In that period, try to vary the engine speed and engine load as much as you can, going up and down the gears. Last thing you want to do is go on a long drive on cruise control. Don't baby the car, don't redline it, don't lug the engine, firm acceleration up to about 4,500 rpm in each gear. This will allow the proper seating and mating of the moving components. That should help towards a long and fun engine life after the break-in period. Hopefully the blown engine was just bad luck, and is not indicative of the car's previous life. Otherwise, there may be other components to the car that were abused as well and may give out on you. But, that's the risk of buying used cars. Good luck with your car and the new engine.

POST 9Original post

Dean I have to say that this forum is excellent. From my experience, when I posted my first question I got a response with a solution within minutes. I have to truly say that there are some real diehard Porsche owners here. I guess that these guys want to make sure that they are not waisting time on a Bull S#@t thread. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that I don't believe you, but I would not want you to get the wrong impression of this forum. Whether a US or foreign 996 owners, we are all proud Porsche drivers. Jack

POST 10Original post

Alright I apologize for my "Liar" comment. Like everyone has stated, we have a ton of new first posts that are bull.... and it gets a little old. I was wrong to say that right out of the gate and as a true Porsche lover I am sorry for being out of line. It just seemed odd that you would not respond to mine and others questions about your situation. Did not intend to give Rennlisters a bad name! Robert

POST 11Original post

The problem that most have is that when a noob posts a blown engine thread as their 1st thread when the first posts should be inqury about purchasing, thoughts after a purchase, mods, etc., NOT A BLOWN ENGINE. If you were to have posted more and contributed to the lively discussions we have here then you would have more credibility and familiarity.....hence, repect when you post a blown engine. That's it. Nothing simpler than that.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Your apologies accepted, and lets have no more on the matter, even from people who have obviously not read the thread asking about purchasing when me engines blown. Grow up What we are all missing here is why did bearing go after only picking it up from having service. Did they make mistake?

POST 14Original post

I'm forwarding this thread to the CIA . . . .

POST 15Original post

Doubt it. That bearing is 78,000 miles old. Engines wear out, no matter who makes them. P-cars are also meant to be driven hard, and they are driven hard. LOL!!!

POST 16Original post

Dean, I believe you have (almost) everyone's support on your side - don't let any single individual put you off. Rennlist is a perhaps the wealthiest resource of information on Porsche, and every member has a right to access all this wealth of information and support. Best regards and do keep us posted of your progress. Emilios

POST 17Original post

No disrespect and in no way do I wish to diminish the importance of this post , but there has been alot of talk about blown engines, RMS problems, 996's not as fast as they should be etc....quiet frankly it has made me very nervous about being a Porsche owner. Down right nervous! Heck I even thought of perhaps a trade-in for a c6. Oh God, I can't believe I just said that............ Would very much enjoy hearing some postive news on Porsche ownership from veterans on this chat room. Anything to get rid of the nervousness about driving my car. Cheers and safe driving.

POST 18Original post

Relax...breathe slowly and count to 10........as a fellow Torontonian I am asking you to keep driving in style and substance! C6...hahaha...the Woodbridge Ferrari.....I played with one last week, great engine, forget the rest (alright the doors are cool)...I love the Porsches, foibles and all...never had any problems with service when something happens...rarely does anyway...think of those sunny fall days winding out the Porsche on a country road north of Toronto.......keep driving the Porsche..... We are going to try and do another fun to a casino before the snow falls.watch the Canada forum..
