Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just picked up a Carrera 4 recently and when I looked at it there was no rattle and everything ran great a couple weeks later I had a little rattle so I checked the cam deviation for bank 1 and 2. Bank 1 -9.3 bank 2 .13. I know bank one is out but from everything I have read it should set a check engine light at or above 7 and I have zero check engine light. Also some back story on the car. I have receipts from 2017 for ims, clutch, rear main, bank 1 cam tensioner and pads and re timed. That was at 97k miles now it has 108k miles 9 years later and I wouldnt think the deviation would be bad so quick. Could there be something else causing the numbers or bad signal. Im still pretty new to the Porsche world . Looking for any input thanks

POST 2Original post

Someone posted a question to startup rattle in the past 2 weeks or so. Ims chain tensioner was mentioned as cause, I seem to remember. It received a spring when the switch to hyvo chain to drive IMS was made so Porsche obviously was aware that oil leaks out the tensioner over time parked up and the rattle at startup concerned owners enough to add the spring. Pads don't wear that quickly. More likely the bank 1 chain tensioner did not exert the same force onto the chain when the cam timing was set as it subsequently does during operation of engine. That can happen when the special tool to tighten the chain is not available and instead the cam chain tensioner is used. You then basically start with a slight cam deviation even though the ramps are new. You can exclude bad signal. It either reads or it doesn't.
