Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys, Friend in LA area just picked up an 01 Cab with tip - 18k miles. Sitting in LA traffic, CEL comes on. New owner notes engines warm, but not hot. CEL stays on to my knowledge and remains on. Are there any 01 tip CEL issues we need to be aware of on this MY? Any 01 tip/engine/drivetrain issues in general? Really surprised this would happen so soon (1 day) after purchase in OC from local boutique haus of european cars.... Thoughts, help and yes, RTFM right? Thanks, Grant

POST 2Original post

Did you read the code? If so, post the code and I (and my others) can tell you what the code is.

POST 3Original post

Have it checked at a shop to find out the code. The code can be looked up online from the shop that pulls it. It is most likely some sort of emissions issue. It is possible that the shop you bought the car from couldn't solve the issue as very little things in the emissions system can set it off. They quite possibly could have kept resetting the system (which turns the CEL off) and sold the car with the knowledge that it will likely go off again. Here's an example: my CEL goes off periodically and it amounts to running slightly rich (9% - which is barely out of spec). This car was from back east and bringing it to the tropics may have something to do with that. I have had it reset twice from my mechanic and it stayed off for approx. 2-3 weeks and then pops on again with the same 2 codes (one for each bank of cylinders). I'd say take it back to the shop that sold it to you and have them pull the code(s) for you. I'd pressure them to help solve the issue. Good luck!
