Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been wondering about this ever since i got my speeding tickets. I've got two high-speeding tickets, and I cannot afford another as I am close to having my license suspended. This is mostly because I have a hard time keeping the C4S within reasonable speeds, the speed demon in me sometimes gets out of control. So, now I don't drive my porsche that much, except to DE's. I was wondering wouldn't an M3 be a more civilized ride on hwy's, and i'll also be able to keep my demons under control better, and an elise for track use. I had thought about this may be for a fraction of 1/100th of a second and immediately realised, i just wouldn't be happy. A garage full of M3's and Elises just aint going to replace my C4S. It'll just be a compromise. So, here I am patiently waiting for my points to dissapper so that I can get my C4S back into a daily driver, until then I am going to find as many DE events as I can and rip those tires off the rims. I was curious whether anyone else out there had thought about this.

POST 2Original post

Funny you bring that up. This has been weighing on my mind for 9 months, ever since I put the deposit down on the Elise and being a current M3 owner. My thinking? Keep the M3 for daily duties, Elise = trackday fun. The short story is that as soon as I can get a 997S with a PiASM-ectomy and the Sport Suspension option (currently only a euro option), I'm going 997S instead of the M3 + Elise route. The longer story is that I was underwhelmed by the Elise. It is not the *whole* package I want in a car, even for a trackday and weekend fun car. And, at 45k with LSS, it's not exactly cheap. I felt that the C4S combined many of the good things about the M3 and Elise, but now believe the 997S is even better, combining much more of the feeling of balance, neutrality and chassis development of the Elise, but with the looks and tq of my C4S. If you can get a test drive in the Elise, do it. It's got a killer chassis, otherworldly steering precision and feel. But, w/o LSS it unsteers badly, build quality is suspect, and the lack of tq makes me feel like I'm driving my S2000 again. It's also little, and the front end is overstyled. I still want one, but maybe one day used and preferably for 30k or under.

POST 3Original post

I like 911s better than M3s (I assume you are talking about E46s), but don't think you will evade the speed demons with an M3 -- if you are possessed now you would still be possessed in an M3.

POST 4Original post

Those are exactly my thoughts. The front end is overdone, IMHO. Looks somewhat Japanese by design. For around $30K, I would prolly overlook this..

POST 5Original post

jeeva keep your c4s. get a good lawyer, put a police association sticker on your car and become more alert to speed traps. THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE.

POST 6Original post

Here's My two cents - Get the V1 Radar - Make A Friend with local cops - obtain a PBA card - "Get Of A Of Ticket" Card Get one PBA sticker and place it on your rear window I got caught with Laser on the highway where I live doing 134 in a 65 The copy asked me what is the rush, I told him, nothing, I just want to get home I handed him my info with my PBA card - He asked me who does the card belong too - I responded, My brother, Sgt Rahway Police - He check my license and gave me a warning ticket - No points, no fees, He just kept the PBA card and smiled, "Now slow down, By the way, Love your Porsche" he says. Thanks and I was off again, Next day my brother fedex me another Card.

POST 7Original post

My friend bought an M3 for his wife and eventually got rid of it because she got more than 2 tickets with the M3. I drove that car myself once or twice. To the best of my memory, I thought I was doing 70 mph and looked at the speedo and I was doing 85!

POST 8Original post

An Elise is impractical and is a definate way to get noticed. BMW's seem to blend in a bit more probably because they are very common in a 3 series and an untrained eye would just assume that an M3 is a regular 3 series with wheels and suspension upgrades.

POST 9Original post

Jeeva, what do you drive when you are not driving the C4S? Whatever it is, that plus the C4S is probably better than the M3 plus the Elise to have in your garage. To keep the speed demons at bay, I just do more DE's. When that can't work, I drive the wife's Volvo . One other thing that works for me is to drive the C4S like a GT car, the other half of the C4S's split personality. Shift at or below 3500 RPM, turn up the tunes, put a drink in the cupholder, and listen to the gentle warble of the flat six at 60 mph. Works for me. Sometimes.

POST 10Original post

An m3 is no slouch. I doubt you would drive the M3 any slower than your C4s. Bob

POST 11Original post

To answer your question - yes (of course) (you're asking here?!). The demon is inside of you, not the car.

POST 12Original post

I have a ttX50 and an Elise 190R. I don't see the Elise slowing you down anywhere but an interstate. You will be continuously be looking for the corner you can take at 2X the speed limit. By the way, the Elise on street rubber can be drifted on the street (the race tire package has higher limits before breakaway)- a likely way to get another type of ticket. Do you have a V1? AS
