Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just had the 30K service done at Stevinson Porsche in Littleton, Co. 0n my '99 996. That evening the airbag light came on - stayed on. Returned to Stevinson's the next day - made an appointment and was told it would be $250+ to check it out. (not caught during the 30K) Doing my research, I find that this is not an uncommon issue. Involves the Seat belt/ Wiring Harness mentioned in previous threads. I checked with the NTSB and find they've received complaints also. Does anyone know of a fix for this Safety issue? Is PCNA aware and are they providing a fix?

POST 2Original post

Most common is the replacement of the buckles and ground wires with a kit that came out just for this reason. The electrical contacts are gold plated instead of tin. This is what my dealer told me. Prior to July of last year Porsche would fix any car out of warranty for free. My out of warranty 1997 Boxster had the newest kit put in about 3 years ago free. Now it is case by case according to my dealer. We have a 1999 Boxster owner who went to another local dealer a few months ago and he was charged parts and labor. We have a local 1999 996 owner and Porsche paid for the part (turned out to be the air bag control unit) and he paid for the labor. Porsche knows about the issue because they have issued several TSBs.

POST 4Original post

Not uncommon at all. Click here and then click the airbag light fix in the upper right. Print that page and take to the dealer if they say there is no TSB. They are lying.
