Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am doing some repair to rock damage to the front trunk floor. There are two covers held in by seam sealer in the floor. They are going to be replaced as they are damaged. Does anyone know the purpose of these? They seem to be for access to something but do not look like they have any use as you can access the top from the frunk and below from under the car. I am going to try to make a homemade "press" to put through the holes to "unwrinkle" the floor. I am sure this is not the intended use though..... Part numbers are 996 504 213 01 and 996 504 201 01. Thanks

POST 2Original post

The holes they cover are at the deepest spot in the body-in-white and serve to drain all fluids after submerging it fully in the e-coating process during manufacturing. The covers (e-coated separately) are fitted prior to seam sealing.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I would never have guessed that!

POST 4Original post

The holes are also used to access both sides of the tub for spot welding.
