It's a tastefull change of an "everyday" 996 to a very special car.

And speaking of historic paint and graphics schemes, I keep thinking how cool that black/orange GT3 RS that's several posts above this one would look if the black was replaced with Gulf Blue...!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
78 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I'm, still not sure how the all black wheels will look with my car.
This answer is a bit nebulous--what do you really think?
I think it's kinda cool--not anything that I would have the ***** to drive, but you gotta love the heritage. Another guy did it to a Cayman S:
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/s...d.php?t=119654
As long as you can peel the stickers off!
OK, this will date me--does anyone else remember the ad, think for Pennzoil, with the guy painting a traditional racing strip down the hood and roof of his green E-type Jag? No?? Oh well . . .
To me, graphics and color should fit the car. For example, yellow is OK for a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Corvette. (Not a Pontiac). I think anything looks good on a Porsche!!!!
Chad, if you like it, go for it! It can always be reversed if you change your mind. I've decided that if I ever mod my car, I'm just going to do it first and post pictures afterwards to avoid the inevitable "that looks stupid" comments.
Good luck!
I say go for it Chad...but maybe the side stripes without the word 'Carrera' in it would look better. If you had a GT3RS it works, but you do not and 'Carrera' in big letters on the side is too much IMHO.
Oh, take out the middle section in your front bumper too if you haven't already, for the 3rd radiator, it's just too much white and the graphics going through that area would be too much.
I am a fan of your 996 Chad, love the Aero w/black wheels. White is on of my favorite 996 colors, yours has been very tastefully done, hats off to you.
With that said, my opinion is that the graphics will take it down, VW like. If you really love it just do it!
Wondering if it would not look better W/O the blue?
GL
The Martini livery is my favorite on a race car. I wouldn't put a decal of any type on a street car though. But, I have a completely stock '00 C4 (except for the clear sides) that a lot of people on this forum would say looks like crap as well.
Not I, not most.
A stock C4 looking like crap would be like saying Eva Mendez looks like ****. It is possible to improve, but hot is hot even w/o make-up.
I dig the idea of the Martini graphics along the lower section, especially on your white car.
There's got to be a way to be a little more subtle than a big giant stripe over the top....
Here's more inspiration for you. Maybe you can flare the rear fenders like this, too.
Chad, here is a picture that I copied from another post. (bella1, I hope you don't mind) I think the Carrera script would look fantastic on your car. I am waiting on the delivery of my black wheels & I will be installing my MK1 aero kit soon. I might even try the black carrera script on my blue car. Does anybody know where to buy it?
Don't know where to buy it Mark but I remember that grant911 did post pictures of a dark 996 with a light Carrera decal on the side:

Here's the thread:

I'm not sure how the black wheels/decal will look on your car but I thinks it's too dark. Why not go for a lighter wheel/decal color like: orange?
I gotta admit I usually hate things like this. But in this case I think this actually looks pretty cool. If the car is mainly a track car I think it would work particularly well.
Hwk72, thanks for the links. I'm, still not sure how the all black wheels will look with my car. If I had an all white car, I wouldn't think twice....I would do it. I love the look of the GT3RS. I saw one in person. The stitching on the leather was also orange. It looks incredible.
As someone who has been into Porsches and classic sportscar road racing for a long time, that scheme just "speaks" to me. I REALLY like the striping. But I don't think I could drive it on the street because it's counter to my non-flamboyant ways.
And speaking of historic paint and graphics schemes, I keep thinking how cool that black/orange GT3 RS that's several posts above this one would look if the black was replaced with Gulf Blue...! Does Porsche offer it in that combo?
I'd go for it - mostly because
you
like it. I don't see how a Martini stripe is more outrageous than some of the tripped out wheels, spoilers and ground effects I've seen on the site. By those standards, you're going to have a conservative look. That being said, it isn't a look I'd buy. But, I do love the Martini graphics.
Bob
Again I say go for it Chad. It looks a lot better without the logo/stripes down the sides IMHO. Remember it is your car/toy so do what you want to it. On the street or track the Martini Stripes will not look wrong at all. In fact, on the street it will tell people that you are more serious about what you do with your Porsche and the heritage than most other cars, that it will probably make them respect you more for owning one...IMHO of course.
Go for it! It's just vinyl. If you don't like it, take it off.
Let me know if you find anyone doing the Carrera script for the lower sills. I'm interested in those as well.
I think it looks even better on the 996 than the 997, especially without the decal on the side. Go for it! It's a tastefull change of an "everyday" 996 to a very special car.
After looking at your photoshop of the car with stripes, your car seems to be missing something. As long as you don't wear a matching jacket, shirt, or hat, go for it.
Stefan
It looks better than the 996 with the flames, boy talk a ricer look or the 70's road runner look. These stripes look fine and they don't even mustangy or camarowy either ha ha! imho
