Over 6 years of ownership, there was only one problem which was repaired under the warranty.

I checked with lots of warranty companies, all of which guaranteed me they could get me an extended warranty but none could, and stated the reason was the car was in California.

Suggestion
Replaced hood and rear lid shocks, had a cracked rear heat shield, clear on front bumper was burned through, someone had taken the steering wheel off (maybe to replace the turn signal stalk which is what I did) but they didn't know how to route the wires and turned the guide upside down causing the tip not to shift, broken center console hinge, broken defrost vent clips, bad paint touch up by the dealer who sold it to me on the rear bumper, bit of wheel curb rash and some bad touch up, very few know how to detail well and it was obvious on the black paint, and a few more.

My warranty expired about a year ago, and my 996 is currently on the market for sale. I don't know how long it will take before it is sold. This 996 is being used only on the weekends. Over 6 years of ownership, there was only one problem which was repaired under the warranty. There was some clunking noise coming from the front suspension. I think the dealer claimed thousands of dollars while it was in their possession for more than 4 days.
Anyway, for those with experience and higher mileage, are there places that offer warranty on 2001 996? If there is, is it a good idea to get one on a weekend car? I hear 996 is pretty reliable.

I don't understand... Are there companies out of state that will give warranties on California cars? Is it because of the year of the car? Some say that the extended warranty needs to be purchased before the factory warranty expires.
How many miles are on your 01 996? Any problems after your warranty expired? Thanks.

Warranty companies cannot sell warranties in California except when sold by a dealer, as per state law (designed to protect consumers from fly-by-night warranty companies). So, your options are limited to what you can get from the various Porsche dealerships across California. Note that each dealership chooses their warranty companies independently, so your options will vary dramatically.
I do not know if you can get a warranty on an '01 car, but I would expect your options to be limited and/or very expensive. I got one on my '03 about a year ago, and they cared about the year of the car and the number of miles on it. I didn't ask how far back they would go.

None stated that there was a law forbidding them but maybe that's why. I don't think a 2001 would qualify for a factory extended warranty from what I was told.
I have 75k miles and plenty of little problems but mostly related to bad work or neglect.
