I can always use the bigger cup and the adapter will have ample room, but is that safe?

I much rather use round cup on jack with a round 4 inch plywood scrap in the cup.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought a high-quality alumin. floor jack adapter on ebay. It fits my 996 C2 very nicely except the adapter is either too small or too big to fit in the floor jack cup. Is that normal? I can always use the bigger cup and the adapter will have ample room, but is that safe? Any other options?
Many thanks.
You have to aim the adapter into the slot under the car. Very hard to center in. I dont use it. I much rather use round cup on jack with a round 4 inch plywood scrap in the cup.
I had cut out something in a 3/4 in cabinet with a 4 hole saw ages ago and the scrap happens to fit in the cup. Is elevates over the top of the cups flanges and its soft enough to give a little. Hardly aim and it always hits the lift point.
What do you guys think about this?

The Craftsman Lift N Secure jack system, a Sears exclusive, is a revolutionary new jack system that incorporates jack stands nested into the floor jack. Simply position the jack under the chassis, raise the vehicle and then remove the jack, leaving the jack stands securely in place. Easy and convenient and safer too you never have to go under the vehicle to put in a jack stand. 2 Ton capacity with lifting range of 5-1/2 inches to 17 inches. A saddle (included) can be used to covert the system into a conventional jack with a lifting range of 6 -1/2 inches to 13 inches. Lift handle folds flat for quick, convenient storage.
This seems like it could be a useful contraption, especially for those who are too squeamish to lift the car up in the rear by the engine to get the rear jack stands on.
However, I have not seen a part number from Sears yet for purchasing additional jackstands.
Orient Express :
That is the Sears Jack Kit. I have it and think it is the best. I wish it had 2 more of the jack stands fir the kit. Then I could get the entire car in the air.

Please forgive a very basic question. I am still new to 996s and still learning. I have a nice Michelin aluminum floor jack. Is it OK to lift the rear of the car with the jack cup and a piece of 2X6 under the engine? I used to lift my 1969 911T this way, but that was 30 years ago. The 996 owner's manual says only to lift at the 4 frame jacking points, but this is not very handy. Thanks.

If you lift the car from the rear jack point high enough, it will lift the front on the same side... where you can easily slide a jack stand for the front. then these nice sears jackstand/jack could be left for the rears.
I'm going to check out this kit at Sears!!
Gotta love Rennlist.
Edit: I went online first to see some specs. It looks like minimum lifting height is 5.5"... that's too high even for a stock 996, I believe... and ESPECIALLY for lowered cars. My floor jack w/ a 3.5" lifting height only has about a 0.5" clearance to the jack and has almost no clearance to the sideskirt.
This sears jack is a no go.
