Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My convertible top is not closing right. It is bunching up over the rear flap lock. Before I realized it, the lock had cut a small hole in the top. The dealer says I need to replace the entire top...$4000. Can anyone take a picture or video of how the top is supposed to fold and close near the lock. Not having ever looked...I don't know what it is supposed to be doing.
Here is a link to my amatuer video:

Thanks in advance!!!

my car is being sericed right now because of the top. Issue is different. Sometimes it closes and sometimes the mechanism won't engage. Further, even when it does, the hook sometimes does not fully seal allowing the windows to go up. Perhaps it is a similar issue - I should get my car back tomorrow. I'll let you know...
Nice color combo
I couldn't tell from the video, but I had a similar problem awhile back. Make sure the the flaps just behind the doors are closing properly. Mine was getting caught on wire underneath.
This is a common problem for these cars. The same thing happened to me - what happens is that a plastic guide-flap at the back of the inner-portion of the convertible old-down area breaks, and when it does 2 things happen: first, the top doesn't fold properly at the back, and second, since the top isn't folding properly, it leaves the canvas 'exposed' and the metal latch at the back that 'locks' the metal pate in place cuts right through the canvas, leaving an irreperable hole.
This was repaired under warranty for me. I think this desreves a PCNA complaint. The flap itself will cost about $25 for them to fix, and it should take about 5 minutes. Have them fix that part ASAP so that at least you can use your top properly. Second, I'd scream like mad for them to pay for the repair of the top, since it is a known design flaw.
The top itself is about $4k. But the plastic flap is only a few bucks. Have them replace the flap, then start fghting about the rip in the top.
Trust me, the flap breaks on many of these cars, and if the dealer doesn't know this then I'd find another dealer. When mine broke, I called the dealer, they told me right over the phone exactly what it was, and lo & behold, they were correct...
Now is the folding pattern in Greg's #2 picture of the original post correct? It seems that it is the correct fold, which btw necessitates the plastic guard piece so that it doesn't get in the way of the latch. Anyone to confirm?

Not sure if this is germane or not to your issue - but I just heard from my dealer about my cab top problem and it was that the potentiometer (sp) in the rear motor for the cab lid was no good and needed to be replaced - and that this was messing up the entire cab closing mechanism as well. It is a $500 part according to these guys - luckily covered under my extended warranty.
