Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The GT3 well, is a GT3 and just keeps impressing on a daily basis and only had 1 warranty repair over the last 4 years.....an oil sending unit.

Suggestion
I probably could have bought a used TT for close to the same price, but I am prejudiced against used cars.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, just need some opinion.
I was considering purchasing a 2001 911 Turbo or a 2004 4S. both are in the $45-50K range. Obviously the Turbo will have 30+K more miles than the 4S.
just want to know if any of you were in this predicament when considering your purchase. I've only driven the 4S and love it... haven't driven the turbo yet.
thanks.
power is always good, but in looking at many 996s of all types, newer cars are always more attractive than the older ones. i love the c4s too... u still get the widebody look, plenty of HP, and great handling... i vote for the newer car...
i went p-car shopping w/ my buddy this weekend... saw about 20 996s... the 2004s always seemed nicer than the 2003 and 2002s...
now if u compared a 2004 TT vs a 2004 C4S... now that's a different story...
I bought my car new in 2002. I knew the TT was better, but I did not think it was worth the $30K better. I probably could have bought a used TT for close to the same price, but I am prejudiced against used cars. I also am prejudiced against turbos. So I bought the C4S.
Your dilemna is different from what mine was. Price is the same, both cars are used cars, difference is age. I don't believe there were any significant changes in the years of the 996TT, unlike in the 996NA line. The TT will probably also hold it's value better in the years to come. If the condition of the two cars are simillar other than mileage, I'd say the TT is the better car for the current money.
I would think projected maintenance costs are a material factor here. You may still have warranty on the 2004 and have the option of buying an extended warranty if so desired.
I would expect maintenance to be more expensive in upcoming years on a 2001 with more miles on the clock then on a newer 2004.
No brainer if you can afford the TT. The dry sump GT1 block M64 motor is FAR superior in every way to the wet pumper M96 you get in the non-GT/TT line. Practically bullteproof. With that said, I have a 996CAB and a GT3 (M96 and M64 motor) and have been extremely happy with both. The CAB has almost 80K miles now and NEVER a leak or problem....just been a joy to own. The GT3 well, is a GT3 and just keeps impressing on a daily basis and only had 1 warranty repair over the last 4 years.....an oil sending unit. Maintenance costs on BOTH are extremely low since I do alot of the work myself. Take care of them and they will be a great car to own (either one).
