Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I'm getting ready to sell my 993 and I am interested in a 996 turbo. Are there any model years to avoid or certain options to stay away from? Are there any looming problems with a 996 like the 993 air injection port clogging and resulting CEL? How is the performance of the 5 speed tip in the 996? Does it slow the car down a lot comapred with the 6 speed? I ask this because Porsche seems to rate the 2007 tip turbo a little faster than the six speed. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Any 996TT is a good one. No worries about any of them. The engines are pretty much bullet-proof. The 996TT tiptronic accelerates slower than the manual, unlike the 997TT tip. I don't think it "slows the car down a lot compared to the 6-speed", but it IS a bit slower. Tip or manual, though, it'll be a beast.

POST 3Original post

Just posted about some of your questions on the 996TT forum here https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/411808-tip-vs-manual-question-yes-i-tried-a-search.html

POST 4Original post

02+ are better. The early 01's had bumperettes and heavy solid spoke wheels. They switched over to hollow spoke wheels mid-year. They improved the interior, stereo and added some nice options (aero kit, X50 engine upgrade) in 02'. If it were me, I would look at an 02'+. There are no issues like the one you mentioned with the 993.

POST 5Original post

+1 for the 02 and newer,a Porsche salesman I do not buy from concurred. Happy Hunting.

POST 6Original post

The Turbo's have the modified 964 case. They're bullet proof !

POST 8Original post

Tell me about your 993 - looking. PM if you prefer. Thanks.

POST 9Original post

I think '02 was when they started putting gove boxes in. This is much more important than engine, gearbox, and wheel/tires.

POST 10Original post

I would avoid the years prior to 1998 for the 996.

And after 04. Really, there were only about six good years for the 996. The rest were really pretty suspect...
