Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think my 996 cab looks much sexier than the "ME SEXY" 997. What do you think?

POST 2Original post

I like the 997 better.....your cab is nice but its a little busy.

POST 4Original post

Time for a visit to the optomotrist. Huge improvement but still no 993.

POST 5Original post

Looks like a 996 to me too, but I think what's more important is that the carreraS will be a better performer than the 996, as the 996 was over 993. IMO 964 is the best lookin 911.

POST 6Original post

964 is the best looking here too.... have alwaysthought that as well..

POST 8Original post

Berny, I only like the color of the 997 better than your cab. haha Seal Gray!!! I drove a 997 today, like the other thread says...no biggy. If you have a 996 already it's not that big of a deal.

POST 10Original post

That 997 is much nicer looking than your 996 IMHO. To each his own.

POST 11Original post

Yup, drove the S. Even the dealer suggested that the increase in $ might not be worth the trade. Trade in for a 996 is about 50-55K and a new S is about 85-90k. That's about a $40k difference to get a Carrera S with 355hp. 355hp didn't feel that much different, but then again I have been driving with 470-475hp. The 997 feels too refined, felt like a really fast Lexus than a 911. If I didn't have my 996 and was in the market for a 911 I would most likely get the 997, but since I already have a 996 I would wait until the 997 GT3 or Turbo comes out next year. Don't get me wrong the 997 is a nice car, good looking and very refined. But IMO and wallet, I can't see paying about $40k extra. I'll stick with my 996 for now...I think it looks just as good or better.

POST 12Original post

Kirb - You have done a fabulous job with your car and for you I totally agree it would be foolish to even think about changing cars anytime soon. Have you dyno'd your car yet or is that an educated guess? 470-475HP - WOW!

POST 13Original post

Jim, Thanks for the nice words. I know you recently ordered a 997 and congrats on that, it truly is a very nice car. I drove an S with 19's and you cannot believe how smooth the ride it. The clutch felt great and it was one of the easiest cars to shift. 470hp is what other 3.6 SC cars are pulling. We;ve tweaked a few other things and we're guessing it might be at 475hp, but if it's only 470hp I'd still be happy. We just haven't had a chance to Dyno it yet. Hey are you going to the German Autofest next weekend? I'll be there.

POST 14Original post

Kirby - yes, I am planning on meeting up with some of the guys and going Sunday. Hope we can meet up! BTW, if you haven't seen it, there is a German Auto Fest thread on the 993 forum.

POST 15Original post

Kirby, Your car is HOT. Great job. See my thoughts on the 997, although I didn't drive them yet.

POST 16Original post

Who would have guessed round headlights would make such a diff? Stopped by Paul Miller Saturday to get my 996 serviced and parked right next to their 997 demo car. Really - not a significant difference at all on the outside, IMHO (maybe I'm not enough of a porsche geek). I really disslike the Ford F150 wheels - just my opinion. Much less of a difference than the 993 and the 996. I still think the 1997 993 is the best lookin' coupe Porsche has made. But the cab top is ugly in the down position and the 996 is a superior performer, has PSM and is more comfortable in the interior - that's why I bought mine. I'm sure I'll trade mine in for a used 997 or 998 cab when the time comes - but to me the 997 is much more of an evolution from the 996 than an acknowledgement of the 993, FWIW.
