I just fitted a factory aerokit bumper to my 996.2 and the car is running warmer.

Suggestion
If the condenser coil condenses to much liquid refrigerant the condensing pressures will be off and possible slugging the compressor causing damage, even if the system charge is adjusted for a larger coil the accumulator still might not be able to handle it.

Running CSF motorsport rads that were installed last summer, so its not those.

They were installed with a factory aerokit bumper and the proper ducting, so either that new bumper is more restrictive (it has mesh over the inlets) or something was off with the install or theyre just not much better.

Everything seems functional and it all pressure tested properly.

A smaller or more 'porous' coil can be used with identical capacity as the tube & fin coil.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Even with just a full correct charge, that still will put some heat into the system, no way around it, especially running slow around town with low airflow thu condenser/radiator.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Beyond being a higher efficiency condenser for the A/C itself, these claim to provide better airflow to the radiators they sit in front of. For the money, I'm willing to give them a shot before I install my center radiator. My 3.4->3.8 build runs a little hotter than I'd like around town in the warm months, even with the upgraded CSF Racing outer rads. I'm still planning on doing the center radiator, but I'd be interested to see if these actually do anything to help with the below 60mph cooling.
I've read a little about people deleting one of the A/C condensers and it helping on track cars.
Didn't see 996 m96 rads on the PWR site. Did see $5000.00 rads for Porsche Carrera GT . Looks like some quality cooling $ystems, made in Australia, nice.
Do they make 996 m96 radiators..?
I have the 3 radiator CSF setup on my 03 C4 Cab. I have one of Jakes engines, 3.8 build.
Mine sits rock solid at 180, I have the LN low temp thermostat temps are extremely consistent,
I've had it creep up 1 time and it was sitting in dead traffic, it went up all the way to about 185,
cooled back instantly as soon as I got to start moving, and this was with the AC on and outside air temps hovering about 107
Be nice if CSF built a thick version of the ac condenser so you could remove he driver side condenser like the GT cars.
.
If their condenser has greater efficiency, then the air exiting them and flowing through the radiators will be hotter. As a consequence the coolant temp flowing through the radiator will not be lowered as much as before with the "less effective" stock condensers.
In your case of lowering temp when sitting in traffic, you'd want to increase the air flow across the rads by fitting fans with higher power.
To see if it is an issue at all, install coop duc's oil temp sensor.
The design is meant to increase air flow to the rads behind them, which is the primary issue with the side rads. They do the job fine, they just dont get enough air under 60 MPH. Again, for $100 a unit, cant hurt to experiment.
Condenser coils should not be increased in capacity. Not saying this new CSF coil is an increase, as IDK. just replying to some above comments...
The a/c systems needs a matched condenser coil and evaporator coil. They both need to be matched in how much gas/fluid they hold.
If the condenser coil condenses to much liquid refrigerant the condensing pressures will be off and possible slugging the compressor causing damage, even if the system charge is adjusted for a larger coil the accumulator still might not be able to handle it.
Might seem like more condenser capacity would improve performance, but AC systems are engineered with specific capacities, if mismatched cause the compressor to struggle, reduced system efficiency, potential component damage, and increased engine strain. Not a good idea.
Lately a swap/upgrade from tube & fin condenser coils to parallel flow type coils are being used. Its a more efficient way to condense the freon and still match system capacities. Since parallel flow condenser coils are more efficient. A smaller or more 'porous' coil can be used with identical capacity as the tube & fin coil. The parallel flow system usually allows for better air flow thru cond coils...
If I'm not mistaken this new CSF 996 a/c condenser coil is parallel flow type coil as are the oem Porsche coils. They may differ in construction ratio of heat exchanger surface areas. Thus allowing more air flow thru the coils. But BTU capacity should be/needs to be identical.
Below pic is a parallel flow coil...
Thanks for explaining how greater efficiency was achieved.
I now understand how they can improve airflow to the radiators, without that air(flow) being hotter than with the stock condensers.
CSF and PWR are sister/affiliate companies, where CSF is the consumer arm using PWR cores. Perhaps there are core differences or CSF is putting their own end tanks on, but I would expect the products to be very similar quality wise in most ways that matter... since they are probably both PWR cores. For the step in price, there may be a difference in core configuration (fin density or thickness).
It is entirely reasonable that a higher performance AC condenser could achieve the same heat rejection capacity with much lower air side pressure drop, enabling greater airflow, especially if these take the construction from tube/fin to bar/plate. The change in air flow would be a function of current dP to evaluate how much air these condensers are preventing from entering the grill.
Perhaps some additional A/C capacity would be made available, but any penalty in air heating would only be in effect when you are demanding that cooling capacity. Presumably a more efficient AC system wouldn't hurt the rest of the time either.
So I had a deer strike with the 996 in early June. Thankfully the damage was purely cosmetic and nothing mechanical or structural was broken, and while the OG AC condenser on the side that took the hit survived without bending or leaking, I figured it was a good opportunity to have the CSF units installed. I'll keep ya'll posted about any changes I notice in running temps, and I'm def doing the Coopduc's oil temp gauge at some point this season.
I recently had these installed. there does seem to be some improvement in the phoenix heat (>105 F) at highway speeds. around town seems to be similar performance. to me it makes sense that they just promote air flow vs. adding additional condensing.
Theyre loaded and my car is running 10 degree hotter now lol. They were installed with a factory aerokit bumper and the proper ducting, so either that new bumper is more restrictive (it has mesh over the inlets) or something was off with the install or theyre just not much better. Disappointing, but we'll figure it out. Car looks cooler at least hahaha
Make sure system isn't overcharged with to high a head pressure. That will heat things for sure. But still cool car good because of the variable rate compressor.
Even with just a full correct charge, that still will put some heat into the system, no way around it, especially running slow around town with low airflow thu condenser/radiator. Probably shouldn't be even close to 10 hotter... If you still have oem 25 year old radiators... Might help with some new all aluminum dual pass radiators...
In the fall, winter, spring, with lots less heat load on ac, the extra heat is dissipated more easily. Hot summer days,,, well, lots of heat, its got to go somewhere...
You're coming up against the first law of thermodynamics: you can't get something for nothing.
Better cooling of the A/C means more heat dissipated by the condensers means hotter air into the radiators. Also tighter fins on the condensers means less air into the radiator. Checking the fans are working properly on both speeds might help.
Is the water temp higher with the A/C off also? That would clearly indicate airflow is the problem.
Cutting the fender liners and getting rid of the down facing duct behind the fan probably helps. If there are rubber flaps on the fan shroud make sure they are all in place and functional; these force the fan to pull air through the heat exchanger stack.
Hmm. I just fitted a factory aerokit bumper to my 996.2 and the car is running warmer. (No other changes.) I'm tempted to revert back to the stocker and see if it makes a difference.
