Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello: My 03 996 with Bose CDR-23 Radio (with optional six disc changer) is having issues. The radio seems to always turn on, but no sound or very low volume comes out. If I pull and reinsert the two fuses that relate to the radio (D-8 and D-9) the radio works perfectly. I have heard this is fairly common, and the fix is usually a replacement of the amp and/or head unit and/or cd changer. Can anyone tell me which one is usually the culprit? Any advice is dearly appreciated. Thanks, Ross

POST 2Original post

i have a simliar problem sometime... i just does not work. It turns on and stuff, but no sound... The only cure i know for that is, i turn the car off for like a Minute, later all is fine... Wierd. Next time when i go to the dealer i will talk to them about this

POST 3Original post

my 99 C4S just spent a week at my dealer with a similar problem, The CD changer would work, but not the radio. They finally tracked it doen to a loose connection in the fibre optic system, ask you dealer to contact Gene at stoddard porsche for details

POST 5Original post

I have a brand new CR23 I bought sometime back for my car....the only problem is that guy didn't tell me that it only works on the newer ones with the MOST system in it. If you want it, I'll be willing to let it go for $100....I paid $300 for it and the guy wouldn't take it back when I told him it wouldn't work. I was pissed....but he could care less and never responded after I tried to return it for a refund. Never installed, but not doing me any good sitting in the box in the closet.

POST 6Original post

you really need a piwis or pst2 to see whcih compoent has the most transmission errors

POST 7Original post

I have a 2003 C-2 with the same Bose system, and it did the same thing. While under warranty, the dealer replaced the headunit and amp. Since then, it has been great. If you still have your warranty, take it to your dealership.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hopefully this may help someone. I took the car to dealer, no faults found but that thought it was a fault in the amp if anything. So I purchased a used "newer" amplifier, part #996.645.333.05... the part in the car was a much older 996.645.333.02... plugged it all in and seems to work, but need to give it a few weeks to see if anything happens with the volume. On the surface however, it sounds much "cleaner". Per a TSB on renntech, it seems the .05 is the more recent and fixes a lot of issues (i believe a .07 is out too) Will let you all know how it goes - given the rash of CDR-23 Bose problems. Thanks, Ross
