Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is it normal to get a creak while depressing the clutch? Most noticable at startup & local drive. Gary 04 C2 Cab

POST 2Original post

I had a bad creak on my 986 and now a slight creak on my 996. My mechanic fixed the 986 creak by dismantling the clutch pedal and lubricating the spring. Only cost me $40. The local Porsche dealership's recommendation was a new clutch assembly ($500).

POST 3Original post

had the creak too. I bought a can of aerosol white lithium grease, sprayed some at the pedal pivot and the creak went away. BTW: that was a year ago with no re-occurrence.

POST 4Original post

is the creak from under the car or under the dash ?

POST 5Original post

It's normal on my '02 C4 Cab. I read a thread on a forum (don't remember which) that said the squeak was from the booster spring and that some people removed this spring. Removal also improved (changed?) the way the clutch fealt. I removed my booster spring. The clutch pedal feels stiffer and linear, was overcenter-feeling (like a toggle) before. Long story short.... the squeak is still there. When the pedal is near the bottom of stroke, right?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's weird, I actually was in my garage, it seems to be kind of a clicking, even with the car off. I pressed the clutch in & out a few time and it "clicks" I suppose it's normal

POST 7Original post

That's totally normal. I forget the name of the sensor but if I'm not mistaken it has to do with the clutch disengaging. Both my boxster and 996 did this when depressing the clutch.

POST 8Original post

mine does that too. however...if you go to the bottom of the floor with the clutch, the cicking you hear is the microswitch that all cars/bikes these days have to prevent some numbnut from starting the car in gear and having it launch forward. cheers
