Suggestion

I have had this happen on both of my 996's and I think the only solution is to shut off the car and lock the door and then reopen using the key.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was on the phone with my friend talking about upgrading my stereo. Then I went out for lunch. Funny thing is my stereo stop working after I started the car. It has power, but no sound! Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

I would pop the hood and check the connections on the amp. Do you hear any kind of hiss when you turn the Head unit on?

POST 3Original post

This happend to me...but the next morning it worked again.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Now it's start working after I shut it down and went back to work.

POST 5Original post

Yup, see... Now I never turn the radio off when I drive. I just turn the volume down to zero if I want to listen to the car purrrrr

POST 6Original post

it seems to be a common problem, especially if your cell phone is integrated. just shut the car off, start it again, and it will go back on. i don't know why it happens.

POST 7Original post

Sounds like your stereo must be running Windows! (the operating system, not the things to keep out wind and rain)

POST 8Original post

Same thing happened to me guys, also every now and then my settings default to "0"

POST 9Original post

syma, i agree-they go to 0. gotta be a system wide defect.

POST 10Original post

I think its an alarm malfunction. I believe the problem stems from the alarm system not sending the proper key to the radio, and thus the radio does not enable. I have had this happen on both of my 996's and I think the only solution is to shut off the car and lock the door and then reopen using the key. Thus you enable and disable the alarm once more. Hopefully this sends the correct code through and allows your radio to have volume.
